Well Mike and I popped over a local garage which he uses for his bike, I wanted to get my bike MOT'd (and passed) so I went there too.

Turns out, because my bike failed yesterday on it's MOT, they can't do another one on a different computer unless I go back to the one I was at yesterday!

Is that true or were they bullshitting me?

Because the place I took it to first time are big giant cocks.

Plus they can't fit me in until a week yesterday.

Retests have be done at the 'failed' garage. If you take it to another they will do a whole new test and probably pick up on summat else.

Happened once wiv me car.

Well unknown to me, they have a reputation for being utter cunts and being a really picky garage just to get more money out of you.

Thats why I hate this new MOT thing....

I've got two garages I trust to not rip me off, they don't mainly because they know that no matter what it (the car, and in future the bike) fails on, they won't get any work out of me as I do it all myself.

Problem is, alot of people arn't like that and have to trust the garage isn't lying. Most are.

Whats more worrying is that while they are making up these supposed failures, they actually miss some other things which are genuine problems.

An example....Few years back a friend took his car into an unknown garage for an MOT. They failed it on his break hoses, they said something along the lines that they where catching on the bodywork/suspension.
This was complete bull. But he got them to replace them anyway....having replaced them, they failed it again because his wheels looked like they had been catching the body work. More bull.
At this point I told him to get the car back and take it to one of the garages I trust. The failed it, but not on anything the first had said about, but on his lower ball joints being dangerously worn, which they where.
That could have lead to a major suspension failure and is a really basic thing to check, I check the play on mine when ever the car is in the air!

Until something is done about either public ignorance to the mechanics of cars/bikes or the honesty of garages, MOTs arn't worth the paper they are written on and the cost of getting one is just another for of tax. A tax which has just been doubled because they now can't offer free retests most of the time.

Yeah, JT's in swansea are known to be piss poor. I should know, I got my first bike from them...

They also did some brake work on a friends bike, and forgot to bolt the rear disk back on which fucked his wheel and caliper and very nearly caused a serious accident Rolling Eyes

And besides all that their well known for taking the piss on mot's and damaging parts of bikes in order to extract more cash from the unwary (valves bent with hammer anybody?).

Fuck em...
