Title says it all really...

If you have, under what circumstances, were there any security measures in place?

Just becuase i have to keep my bike just off a dark back road and seeing what security measures it's worth taking to ensure it doesn't get nicked.

They are only as good as the lock and chain you use.

I'll be using a Thatcham approved Oxford Magnum 2000 D lock alongside a Oxford hardcore lock and chain, with a cover over the top......that sound ok?

First few in Edinburghs old town.

Latter ones in a small village in the North West of England.

The ground anchor is still intact, as is the lock. The chain was cut using a hand-pumped hydraulic shearing tool, the bike loaded into a van then taken away and the immobaliser bypassed.

If someone wants to steal it, there is nothing you can do to stop them.

EDIT: If someone dressed in a hoodie is prepared to climb over a razor wire fence, in full view of a CCTV camera, carrying 48" foot bolt cutters and steal your bike, what more can you do other than sit on a nearby roof with a big rifle and nightsight?

Oxford chains can be cut in less then a minute.. If you want a good chain then get Almax www.almax-security-chains.co.uk But Oxford should do the basic job of keeping the odd chav away.

Also, get a alarm.

zip 50 piaggio (the mrs's) was placed in her back garden, half an hour later it was gone, there was some dodgy looking builders overlooking the house that saw her, who had a van.

Bike was never found.

kawasaki kmx 125

stolen from outside a police station. in the centre of bristol. with cctv overlooking it. no security (stupid i know, i was about to buy another disc lock - the one i had didnt fit Embarassed )

was never found Crying or Very sad

now i use a disc lock on the front and a chain on the back wheel. if i could afford a £300 alarm system, it'd have one of them aswell. but i cant, and it doesnt. it does suprise me that i have the most security on my bike out of all the other bikes that park there though!!! hopefully theives will look at my bike with 2 locks on it, and think

"stuff that, i'll nick that other bike instead!"

mine isnt the only sv650 parked there either!

stinkwheel - Shocked been a bit unlucky with your bikes. you get any of them back?

Never had any stolen, but some one attempt to steal one from my garage. Cut the lock off with big bolt cutters but as soon as they opened the door the alarm went off and they ran. The police are useless, the people left the bolt cutter behind with finger prints and they knew it was the gypsies but they did nothing about it Rolling Eyes

No. There are benefits to owning total shitters. No serious thieves are interested and a £100 lock and chain see's off all but the most determined pikeys.

I'll second the Almax stuff.

I have the Series II which is 16mm thick chain with links the size of a childs hand.

The new series IV now has 19mm links Shocked

Expensive, but if your going to pay £100 for a good lock, you might as well spend £150 and get a much better one.

I dont know if anyone saw the almax stand at the NEC, but me and some mates got talking to Alex and Maxine (al ...max) who own the company. They showed us all the testing they had done on other manufacturers chains, and showed us an oxford monster chain could be cut by hand with bolt croppers in 3 seconds. The Almax chains are seriously hard, the electrically driven hydraulic bolt cutters wouldnt even touch them, so i think they would have saved Stinkwheel's bike. The stupidest thing is that the oxford monster still has all the top ratings, and is endorsed by insurance companies, whereas the Almax chains arent even listed by most insurers.

I wish Rolling Eyes

Three times my old girl conked out at the side of the road and I had to leave it there with nowt more than a shite disc lock.

Arrow Car layby on a busy A road (left for 36 hours)
Arrow On a round about island (left over night)
Arrow On a footpath next to a busy two laned road at a set of traffic lights (2 days)

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/zxr_014_143.jpg

I must admit, I have been very, very lucky as there are loads of chavs and pikeys in the surrounding areas, all with vans (or corsas Laughing ).

I did think that the bike was left in such stupid locations that it looked to much of a good thing to steal, like a sting or set up maybe.

CG125

Just a simple padlock on it.

Got to respect the guys they rode it till it ran out of fuel, hid it in a bush and ran off. Someone reported it to the police who went and saw it but never reported it to me.

By the time I found out, it had gone again, they had come back with petrol and took it again and went off roading on a CG!!

Turned up again a few days later but most bits were missing.

Great thing was I made a complaint to the Police that they knew about it for over 8 hours before I did and they never even phoned me. Hell they could have come round I was less than a minute from the police station! The reason I say it was great that i did this was that they gave me about £500 compensation. What nice people!

Close but was a feeble attempt so it was worth telling.

RS125 outside work under CCTV (lateshift 10pm) had its ignition drilled out, loads of drill bits on the floor etc, /they/ had a go at booting the steering lock off but no luck so must have just left it there.

CCTV did not catch anything?? so I ended up having to wait 2 months for a new ignition barrel and key.

Should have just lifted it and Van'd it, but obviosly the cnuts who done it can't have a brain.
