I just got stopped for the first time this afternoon. I was travelling just a bit faster than normal through the outskirts of town. It's a notorious place for the radar gun to be out and I'm always careful, as I come round a small bend accelerating I see the yellow jacket and start to swear at myself inside the helmet. Laughing His hand comes up and waves me in.
Knowing fine I was over 30mph I continue to swear at myself, in 19 years of road use I've never had any points but today would be the day I think to myself while the swearing continues.
As I get off the bike and take off my helmet the question comes, "Do you know why we stopped you ?" "no" I reply. "Well it wasn't for this" He shows me the reading on the speed gun that says 39. "Thats what we clocked you at and you were still accelerating towards us !" Now I'm thinking to myself that I'm really in the sh!t, if he didn't stop me for speeding then what was it ?
"We stopped you for that" he's pointing to my helmet of the ground with it's dark visor Shocked
Oh, is that all ! I think while trying to sound humble. "Do you have a clear one ?" then
"Change it when you get home, they're illegal and a £30 fine"

He then checked over the bike, had a look at the can. I told him that it had passed the MOT and had the BS numbers there but he couldn't find the "not for road use" stamp so nothing more was said. The plate wasn't even mentioned, then he had a look at the tax disc which I'd only put on today and then I was ready for the off.
With the sound of "this is just a warning" ringing in my ears I tootled off smiling like a bloody Cheshire Cat. I was doing 39 in a 30, had an illegal plate and can and all he was interested in was my visor.

Ofcourse it will be changed before I go out the next time just incase Liar

At least he didn't fine you for it. I'd be bloody annoyed if I got fined for a dark visor. I got fined for a small plate once, fair enough. But there is a legitimate reason to wear a dark visor. ie so you can see where your going.

If he has a speed gun and you were doing 9Mph over the limit and were still accelerating towards him????? What the hell was he doing there? also why didn't you ease off the power when you saw him?

All the years of riding I have been pulled for plates and cans but never for the black visor I am always wearing....Sounds like a one in a million COCK of a copper to me! Rolling Eyes

I did ease off when I saw him but was accelerating round the bend, so by the time I clocked him it was too late.

To a certain percentage they are on the front sides and no tint on the front.

its about how dark the tint is
i know a guy who was stopped by police and told he had to change his windows as they were a very dark tint and werent just peel off stuff

he had to get it done at his cost, and show up at a police station with it to show the work had been done.

however with a car they are fixed in place, but you can change visors. i think its perfectly reasonable to wear a dark tint in the day and clear at night (particularly in summer)

Yup, sounds like you had a lucky escape on this one. Haven't actually heard of many people getting pulled just for their visor Shocked

Front 3 ie windscreen and driver and passenger side windows must be no more than 70%. Other windows can be as dark as you like. Cool
