I've been told it's a great way to get in to racing but have a few querys.

I've been told the 125's are harder to ride than 175's. Why?
I'm 13 stone 6 foot. Will this put me at a big disadvantage?
I haven't done track days but my friend say this isn't a problem. I'm a fairly fast/proficient road rider.
What's the general maintenance like? How often do things break on them?
Most importantly, is it still fun since they top out at 50-60.

Cheers

I am presuming you are talking BSA bantams?

Well, the 125 road bikes are shit for one thing. Always were. They are dog slow and many of them have a rigid frame (not so good for cornering).

I've seen a couple of 175 bantams racing in club races and they go like stink (for a 40 year old 175cc 2-stroke). I would say 60mph is a trifle pessimistic.

Also consider MZ racing. Easily accessable and cheap. Bigger bikes (size wise) too.

When you start looking at the costs of bemsee racing, cheap isn't a word that springs to mind.

our resident racer G, says do a few trackdays and get fast before taking up racing

dukered, you are an ambitious optimist and who knows maybe some of your big projects will work out.

even racing mini motos can be pricey tho compared to trackdays

Lol I know but they do occasionally work. I was intending to do a few trackdays at the respective tracks since would be ridiculous racing on them and not knowing a single bend. Problem is I'm not buying a suitable bike for the track as me road bike. So probably will have to rent or buy a dedicated track bike.

The MZ racing looks intresting.
