How true is this statement?



To get the best pay in white collar jobs you have to keep changing jobs after say 9 months to 1 year in each job , as staying in jobs only earns you small 2-5% pay increases a year.

No to get the best pay, you need to get experience (9 months in each role is not really enough as it looks like you have no commitment) and then work as a temporary member of staff in the same field.

As a temporary member of staff you can earn almost 20% more than a perm member of staff, you just dont have job security.

You could also set up a ltd company account and get the 8.33% holiday pay and 12.8% NI included in your hourly wage.

It does mean you wont get a paid holiday when you take it, but you see what your earning hourly, rather than taking the acrued holiday pay seperately.
(lots of staff forget to even take their total holiday pay!)

For example £14/hour PAYE is £17.10/hour ltd.

Not necessarily, within a large organisation you cna move around within it, get seconded ands stuff. In any organisation, especially smaller ones, to get the best payrises, you have to show added value to the company, and most importantly, you have to ask for them.

I think once you have a few years experience behind you, temp is the way forward. Alot of staff i place at work come out of contracted perm work to become temporary staff as they get alot more money for it.

And beyond that going into interim management (but that generally requires having stayed in a job for a long time to a standard where you can take your skills elsewhere - more applicable to consultancy based jobs.)

Basically to get the most out of temp you keep selecting jobs that build upon your portfolio of skills. Then you can get a higher paid role the next time.
Only problem is you have to worry about job searching every 4-6 months (dependant on role, some are ongoing) and run the risk of being unemployed for a week or two.

Use a decent job agency and they will keep your employment rolling from one assignment to the next as long as your not a waster
