its just started pissing down in Reading and never thought I'd be so pleased to see rain....how sad is that!!! - we have air conditioning at work and I usually switch it off as it makes me too cold, but these last few days heat have been a killer!

I guess its going to get hotter each year with global warming but on that thought.....do you think as a country we are geared up for that sort of heat?

it seems if we get any extreme weather hot or cold, our traffic systems grind to a halt, our houses can't cope with heat or cold beyond much extremity.........

Do you think in years we will have to rethink the way we build things/construct things....due to weather changes?

Sorry for odd thread but I'm in a thinky mood today!!! Laughing

I love how people (not aimed at you) get pissed when it rains and is cold, then as soon as there is a bit of heat everyone complains its too hot. Laughing

Any type of weather is good for me. Cool

I think in a few years time the amount of skin cancer patients in the UK will rise significantly until the mindset to apply it first thing in the morning sets in.

The short fuse temparament of some people, caused by the heat, will lead to more road accidents as well I should imagine.

Not forgetting the obvious problems with dehydration/heat stroke.

Bloody right there. Looked at the weather forecast last night, "cloudy with sunny spells, feeling cooler", how about damper, they forgot to mention that one! Took all my waterproofs out of my rucksack last night and the lining out of my jacket. Twisted Evil

Global Warming? Bring it on, who visits the Maldives anyway. Wink

On the way home through the rain/spray and heavy lorries and what do I see? Coming towards me just about to enter the traffic island I'm on, like a Maid of the Mist, is a Chinese 125 rep with the rider wearing either rolled up over the knee brown Cords or Corduroy Plus Fours and a blue iridium shod race rep lid. I don't know, the dress sense of youngsters these days! Shocked Wink

Think yourselves lucky that some of you were in T-shirts and jeans!

I had the right gear on, even had waterproof boots and gloves (gloves found hiding in the bottom of my rucksack), unfortunately I'd got on my summer jacket with the lining removed and unproofed leather jeans. Me hands and feet were feeling great though! Wink

Started raining at 5.30 here just as I was getting up. Had planned to leave for work at 6 o'clock to get a head start on things before anyone else got into the office but then left it an hour thinking the downpour would ease off a little but it only got worse. Anyway, eventually left home at 7.15 with rain pouring into the garage through a hole in the roof where the felt has split.

Not the best start to the day. Not really that bothered about riding in the heavy rain; it's the water flooding into the garage that pissed me off. Been meaning to get the garage re-roofed for a while so it's my own fault for putting it off.

To put the water shortage into perspective, it's probably only about the fifth time I've been caught in the rain on the way into work since the beginning of winter.

Going back to the original post.

I think our buildings are perfectly adequate. My office is a 1700's listed building. Walls are a foot thick. With the windows closed in the winter its nice and warm, too warm sometimes. Open the windows in the summer, there's a through breeze that keeps it tolerable.

People are happy complaning but a little effort goes a long way. Things like loft insulation, double glazing. Even really simple stuff like clothes. If you're hot then why the hell are you wearing a tight 50/50 poly cotton designer label t-shirt? Because its trendy? Just like the sweat patches huh? 100% cotton or linen is great for the summer, but creases like anything,
