So i went into my local bike shop today and there was an rs50 in there. Its a private seller and on a 2004 plate with just under 6000km on the clock.

I asked the bloke about it and he advised me not to buy it, as it would probably need a piston rebuild which is needed about every 6000 miles.

Is he right?

My RS50 was a Gem, 2001 and sold it with 30k on the clock without one engine problem in 2 years of using it every day, i still see it going strong.

Just a shame i can't say the same about the "125"

Okay got my little book here for the 2005 RS

says piston and rings after first 8000km (or 5000miles) and every 16000km after?

looked on google and found this
seems the 2004 RS50 is the same.
https://www.serviceaprilia.com/public/lum/index.asp?l=RS%2050

open up the manual and press 'ctrl f' and search for service intervals (page 41)

No engine troubles with my Rs yet, and i bought it with around 11k on the clock, i have since done about 4/5k and it still feels good.

Only thing with mine is its eating rear bearings due to a dodgy axle thing, i told my dad to replace it (would cost like a fiver) but no, he continues bodging it, and wasting £12 a time on bearings... this is the 4th lot Laughing

I still cant believe he advised you against buying it, maybe he's actually a decent guy. Most dealers would give you any old bullshit to sell you a bike.

Yeh i think its because its a private seller and they want nothing to do with it, incase something goes wrong
