I have checked all of my antivirus, spyware software and doesnt find anything, but this program crashes randomly at the system startup, or the system takes a long time to log in.

Ive found some information that says it may be the blaster worm, but the AV finds nothing, not even the blaster removal tool from symmantec.

Can I just copy svchost.exe off the XP disc and try and fix it?

Im on XP SP2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you sure it's not a svhost - without the 'c'?

i had a bug that was called that which caused a fair bit of havoc on my machine.

svchosts are generally just background processes in the OS....

could be...

various services use the SVCHOST.exe to run, might want to look through the service managment console and have a look for anything out of the ordinary.

does it fire up in safe mode ok?
if it does then it'll most likley be a driver. uninstall your sound and gfx drivers. if it still does it try removing a few others.
sound and gfx drivers are the most common culprits
