Wouldn't risk it myself incase you were in an accident and had insurance problems, ie they could say you weren't insured.

I often get stopped, so I certainly wouldn't risk it, never mind telling everyone about it on an open internet forum.

Had my license for 1 year 10 months 10 days, a 33bhp has never been near them.
The Ducati should be 33bhp but only a Fag/Mug would do that.

The only way i rekon they would find out is if you killed yourself or killed someone else on it, in which case your royally fucked anyway.

i passed my test 2 years ago in august and took them out of the vfr nearly a year ago to see what it was like and havent put them back in since. im at uni so i only get to ride my bike at xmas easter and nxt weekend for 3 n a half months when im off for summer. most of my mates started off with them in but have removed them afta a few months. Im fully aware of the risks but they could alway be put back in.

Angelic Sub-33bhp bike for me, my problem was more the weight of the bike than the power so I went for a physically smaller bike to last me my restriction.

For another 17 days, anyway........ Very Happy (The 400 is provisionally booked in for an MOT on Monday! Dance! )

Had 2 bikes since I done my Restricted test a year and a half ago. A 600cc and a 1000cc.. To me the 33bhp restricts you from getting to know your bike and reduces the confidence you should gain from them.
Tell me that a rider after a 2 year 33bhp period is ready for the full whack of BHP his/her say 600-1000cc bike has? when its been running like a scootai, I don't think so. I would say the person who had that 2 years without them is going to be the safer and far better rider with more confidence and so on as he/she has learnt what the bike can do.

Penny Coin Penny Coin

Whats these restrictors anyway:?:

I had a 1978 400/4 for my probation period, which put out under 33bhp at the wheel. Was a great 2 years, only reason I moved on after was having to use a bike for over 50 miles a day and couldn't bare to ruin the restored bike with such a commute.

I'd add another 400/4 to my collection if it ever gets started.

Ive had my liscence now for what, 1 year and 5 months now, almost finished with the restriction period now and im still 33bhp.

I could have had multiple replacement bikes now, but havent been able to afford to get them restricted aswell so ive left them.

Ive said this before in another thread, its there for a reason.

Not only that, but IMO its like a 125... its all character building.

You have the rest of your life to nail around on full power bikes etc, think of all the adventures your missing out on, the stories you wont be able to tell...

And as for wave, well. Dude, wtf have you got to progress to? Seriously im on a 33bhp 500, so i can look forward to the full power 500, then a 600, then a 750, then a 1000, then 1200 etc...

Owning a full power duke at your age, your not going to have anything left to progress to in a few years time. I know its not my business, but i dont see why people are so impatient.

Its not like 33bhp is particularly slow... its enough power for you to go faster than national speed limits, and enough power for you to loose your liscence in a single sitting. Why bother rushing to get more power?

I dont understand why people de-restrict bikes illegally, and i guess i never will, just /realy/ dont see the point.

Haven't done the test but I reckon I would stay restricted - purely so mr jobsworth policeman hasn't got a reason for trouble if he decides he doesn't like me. Laughing

I'd say I also agree with what Method said.. If it can break the National speed limit - why be greedy and want more? It's just licence losing stuff! Wink I can understand derestriction on a 50cc.. but 30mph is much much worse than the 110mph(?) that a 33bhp'er would get to..

That's the thing....DO YOU have the rest of your life to try full power big bikes/ Could die tomorrow walking across the street. Razz Not to mention the number of anti-bike campaigns that the BMF and MAG constantly are up against.

I used to think like that but I don't think I'd ever get BORED with 1000cc power. It's jsut not really all ABOUT the power. Also, the term 'upgrading'...it's not about more bhp to me.

Yes there is, the "i am 33bhp" one. Dont see many people going around with 33bhp for no reason Wink

Not slow, well mine was, throttle restricted. 101mph max, slow acceleration and limited to 7000rpm. ran like shit it really did.

Now without them you get around 160mph, all the torque, all the revs (16,000 of them)

Long as you can control your wrist you should be ok, so just because your capable of going silly speeds does not mean you have to.

I just don't see it as good practice with them in, when they give a fake feel to what the bike should be doing.

I will be doing my A2 in a year and havent even to given a thought to keeping the restrictors in, I will put them in, get a DYNO, and take them out.

This is what everyone I know has done. Everyone understands the risks if you were to seriously hurt or kill someone, but it would be VERY hard to prove, chances are, if youve had an accident big enough to warrant a big investigation, your bike will be totalled anyway. And people may say they can still test the engine even if the bike is totalled but this would require at least somework on it, which means whatever they find would not stand in court.

Case closed in my eyes.

But its a personal decision that you can only really decide yourself, nothing against people who keep them in at all. Entirely individual.

You'd have to try quite hard to total the bike enough that it couldn't be examined to see if the claimed restrictors were fitted or not. Wink

I intend on doing my restricted test at the start of next year. I will probably be buying a DRZ 400, which WILL be restricted, i dont see the point in risking your insurance for the sake of a few horse power, and im told the DRZ only puts out around ~43bhp so i wont cry over the loss of 10bhp after being stuck at 5bhp for a year.
