A fully mappable aftermarket ecu is going a bit far unless you get into turbo conversions and the like.
A power Commander is usually good enough for most people.

as spanner monkey said power commanders or tuneboys are most peoples preferred choices. Real aftermarket ECU's range from the very good but DIY mega squirt systems (around the £200 mark, https://www.megasquirt.info/), right up to MoTec ECU's (from around £2k upwards, https://www.motec.com/). Seriously though, you arent going to get any more power by just injecting more fuel, and with just a pipe and light porting you arent going to need more fuel than the stock system with a power commander can supply.
If you want more power you can start by getting a bigger bike or dropping in a bigger engine. If you dont want to change bike there are many options for tuning after you have fitted a performance pipe and light porting. (plugs are very unlikely to make much significant differerence)
-Performance Cams
-Heavier porting
-Bigger throttle bodies
-Performance filters
-Lightening and balancing
-Increasing capacity (bore and stroke)
Id have thought you would want everything on here before fitting a custom ECU. You can increase fuel pressure with a new pump and a modified rail, and still remap with a power commander for quite serious fuelling increases.
One thing thats worthwhile remembering is that in most cases of major power increase it will cost you an awful lot, take lots of your time, and there is usually (at least in NA tuning) a trade off for power against rideablity. Heavily tuned bikes with mad porting and wild cams wont idle stedily for toffee and because the gas flow at the bottom end will then be lazy and slow, turbulence is lost effieciency goes down and you lose bottom end torque. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |

Many thanks, awesome info, it was a friend who mentioned it to me as I was talking to him about how it would be great if my MT-03 had 75hp etc, (Me needing a motard for ground clearance where I live) (Top floor
I don’t want to make the machine a racing bike, I just wondered if there was an easy method to getting another 10hp, as in sticking on a new custom can gives you 3-4hp better spark plugs 1-2hp etc.
Also the MT-03 has a throttle restriction which I was told are a real pita to remove.
Thanks for taking the time to post and enlighten me.
Best Regards
Wiry:) |

Well for starters get rid of the throttle restriction (ask your dealer how), then if it was my bike, Id start with trying to find a decent full exhaust system for it. Fit a power commander, an a higher flowing air filter or a single pod filter since its a single. Get this setup on a dyno and it might get somewhere near the 10bhp you are after. Other than that the power commander will make your power delivery much smoother all the way through the rev range, so even if you dont have a 10bhp peak gain, your average power will be up, which really does matter. ____________________ Bluespark Automotive - Diesel Tuning for Performance and Economy |
