I have just got back from an evening run up the A29/A24 from Bognor to Leatherhead and only passed one other biker (albeit a ped pitza delivery lad). Do real bikers not come out in the dark or am I being the silly sod for being out so late. Rolling Eyes

I did that exact route last year sometime, after work in the dark (came from Redhill). From vague memory I chatted to one other biker parked up on the sea front, that was about it.

I avoid riding in the dark (or driving my car for that matter) whenever possible as I have really crap night vision.

I mean REALLY crap. Can only see to the range of my headlights with virtually no peripheral vision and my mirrors are useless so I end up crawling along at about 30 everywhere - not a lot of point in that!

bike lamps are so poor that they will get you home but are no use if you want to go quick.
because you live or die on observation while riding,so with bad light you can miss that last chance clue and end up in a tractor and then in hospital.
hence most bikers go home and dont come out till morning.
there are exceptions though.

i have to ride 50miles back in the dark when i come back from chester at 11 at night.

it's a bit of a pain in the pouring rain and when car drivers leave thier full beam on (i just whack mine on ) but you get used to it.

love riding back from warrington though about 20 miles in 0 degree temps on a clear night with a full moon bang on the speed limit on the country roads.

Night riding is good if its totally dry, I love doing it especially when its hot outside.

And If a cop car did tailgate me in the night, I'd give the fucker a stern telling off too, and if he did try and give me a ticket or something I'd dispute it cos of the fucker right up my arse, I'm sure you'd get away with it too!

I love it. Thumbs Up

Nothing beats tearing up the town at night when its dead. apart from the occasional chav or odd drunk Mr. Green it's empty.

There is just so much fun to be had.

Also attacking your favorite road for top speed with a few twisties Wink

We used to meet in Bodicote hit the Oxford road follow it through Banbury then hit the Southam road ride that for about 4 miles take a left ride through Farnborough.

Then head up Avon dassett in search of doggers Laughing Man that was fun Mr. Green

Then hit the Warwick road back into Banbury.

I can not wait to get back Laughing

Sometimes i think i over do it, went to oxford(bout40mile) for a gig in january but the ride home seemed like 100mile, 1am- i had just a t-shirt and textile jacket and jeans rode in minus weather 2-up, icy roads with carb icing F**king me engine up (i had to rev the nads outa it whenever i came to junctions or roundabouts) + forgot to fill up so the last 7 mile was on fumes, pillion complained about cold legs but i was deflectin all the wind and he had 2 pairs of jeans on Exclamation .
Good times summit to remember but i wont be doing that again. Mr. Green -1 is the lowest im goin out in from now on Exclamation

I like riding at sunset/dusk, when it's cooler and there's that eery light on the roads.
The problem is the local wildlife comes out to play as well - suicidal pheasants and deer.

I stick to the speed limit at night since i dont know if the car behind is a piggy.

Saying that i have been flashed about 2 times at night by the police for speeding, i was gone like the wind to say the least.
