My first R.T.A, probably not my last.

Was going along, minding my own business, hadn't done anything stupid or annoying to other drivers... doing about 35,40 in a 30 zone (keeping up with traffic).

When a guy in an mitsibishi L200 (for those of you who don't know its a big pickup truck thing) overtakes me at a great rate of speed, an easy 60mph.

The idiot pulls in far too early, and his backwheel hits my front wheel and the side of my bike i get sent off the bike, and start bouncing down the road rolling away after about 75metres i stop and the bike stops sliding at about the same time, i tried to get up, but i couldn't move.

The girlfriend of the guy who was driving was the first person i saw, she came running back to make sure i was okay, yes i was just hit by a moving car side swiping me, i'm fine..

About 10 mins later paramedics followed by police and an ambulance arrive, i was put on a spine protector board and send to hospital.

6 Hours later i get out of hospital with my leg in plaster in a wheel chair... apart from road rash i'd pulled all sorts of muscles and broken my right ankle.

I can't walk, as i was given a pair or crutches to use, but my left arm is still too sore to hold and use one, so i have to hop everywhere.

What was a beautiful bike to the lack of a better work is now buggered.

And i still haven't seen the guy who did it! he never got out the car.

So what happens next?

What a tosser, has any body taken any details of the driver/vehicle for you?Do you have fully comp insurance?Are there any witness's?
I take it if you have gravel rash you did not have leathers on?

A broken ankle can take a long time yo heel dude, I should know I've broken mine twice.Hope you get well soon.

I hope someone, if not the Police in attendance, got his details. If they did he is likely to be done for dangerous/careless driving. What you need to do is get his details and get straight onto your insurers. Don't mess about talking to him let them deal with it

When i was talked to by the police in hospital, as well as being breahalised, cause i was the drunk one... they said they belive that i was in the right here, and that they are going to prosecute him on numberous offences.

Damage to the bike..

Every fairing, either scratched or snapped, front of the chassis is bent, exhaust crushed, handlebars are snapped... normal things like the mirrors didn't make it, footpegs all snapped off, front mudflap is snapped, bike doesn't go in a straight line... it looks like a write off to me.

Once i've taken some, i'l post some pics of the bike.

With the money depending on how much i get, i will get a new bike... it hasn't put me off as such, just reinforced my belief that most people driving on the roads are dickheads, and its not your riding at the end of the day that could kill you..

The paramedics said i was lucky not to have broken anything in my spine, as i hit and bounced down the road about 5 times... trusty old back protector helped there i guess... if i get money i'm going to get a set of leathers... as i couldn't afford too before, although i did want them.

You need to tell your insurance company you've had an accident. Personally, that's about all I would do prior to contacting:

to deal with a replacement vehicle and compensation for your injuries.

I've used the first one before (car accident) and it's a lot easier than sorting things out yourself with your own insurance company, and you tend to get a much better replacement vehicle whilst yours is being repaired than the usual workshop loan car.

I would get the fucker on every concievable claim!

A bloke in work had an old guy pull infront of him the other week, broke his collar bone and wrote off his SV1000 (he too got breathalysed even though he was struggling like mad to breath at the time!)

by all means, claim some compensation, but only claim what YOU justify yourself deserving. then by new bike, new leathers etc...

Yes you need to report to your insurane company.
If there's an independant witness so much easier for your claim.
Try to keep any contact with the other party in a businesslike and firendly tone - he will be going through hell even if he was a dick - bear this in mind and all being well the settlement will be a formality.
Beware any sort of admission regarding speeds or anything else that they might use against you.
For exaple you already implied here that you were travelling just over the limit - the fact he was going faster is there, but he might try to claim you somehow speeded up into the gap that was there a moment earlier.

Fucking "breathalysed" that's a piss take, cos you had been drinking it caused the driver in the 4x4 to cut you up, yeah right.

I got £2500 for a fractured ankle in 1998,so it may be more now.

-so you all know, it is standard procedure to breathalise BOTH parties involved in any road collision. so for once the police werent being discriminatory.
-glad you are (relativley) ok.
-as above claim for everything you can see and think of. its then down to the solicitors to deem what they can get money for.
-hopefully the fool will lose his license.
