You just gotta be polite and treat them with respect and you can get away with alot just dont take the piss.

You can get away with 5mph over the limit easy

When i got pulled for speeding in my car i do remember the officer telling me that if i'd been a couple of miles over the speed limit he would have let me off with a warning

But since I was 14 miles over the speed limit he would have to prosecute me.

Im sure at the end of the day though it would come down to how nice you were too the officer's. I mean if i got caught doing 2 miles over the speed limit and started ranting and raving to the officer's about civil liberties etc, im sure they would do all they could to slam on 3 points and a fine just because I was ranting at them.

It's worse when you have an import bike, that's has mph stickers slapped on haphazardly, then downgeared.

Think you'll find most Gatso's are set at speed limit +10%+2mph. therefore, in a 30 zone, they'll probably get you if you're going over 35mph. By law, plod have to allow you a 10% error as speedos are not 100% accurate due to tyre wear etc. Check out www.pepipoo.com for further guidance if you get a right t****r of a plod laying down the law. They are not always right!!!

Personally, I've ridden enough at 30mph to be able to tell the difference between 30 and 35 (indicated on my speedo).

I saw a white van parked with what seemed to be a transmitter/receiver device fixed upon a tripod, was that a speed survey and do you get the usual points and fine if exceeding the limit? It didn't have police markings or anything...

I have seen many near accidents where people are just staring at the clock and not ahead, as they are afraid of getting done by going slightly over.
Late braking and even swerving I see alot as their concentartion is not being used for what its meant for. And now with more and more of the GATSO's being out of view to the last second this is not making the roads any safer at all.

So many government officials/police and such say in things like news interviews 'even if drivers slow down when they see a police van or camera, we would have potentially stopped an accident' but the amount of people that come up to a camera and slam on the brakes is rediculous every speed camera is a crash waiting to happen.
and ive often thought (even though ive never encoutered a speed trap van) that the fact that radar guns work on the principal of the amount of time the laser comes back from the plate - what if they moved the gun forward as they fired?
+ all the stuff about bike misreads.
driving/riding is slowly becoming more of a political dictatorship than a freedom or a privilege.

you are allowed a REAL 10% + 2 miles an hour over. So in a 30 thats 35, in a 40 thats 46, etc.Bearing in mind speedo's also tend to read a little on the generous side by about 10% also.

Don't practice it though please.

Im quite pissed off at the moment, I managed to run a red light yesterday due to paying far too much attention to my speedo and the scamera operator who was pointing his gun at me

Hands up I was not paying proper attention to the road but I blame him for putting my life in danger over a few quid and some points! Thankfully from where he was he could not have seen that the light was red so I should be ok
