I dropped my bike AGAIN! This time my b/f was pillion and we did exactly what we were talking about in that women and pillions thread a while ago. For some reason, at a junction, I braked for the car infront who was just sitting there and the bike went over. All happened too fast to remember exactly what happened.

I'm so pissed off with myself!!!

Since I dropped it last, and then went extra wide on that roundabout, I still haven't got my confidence back and I think this was partly the cause of the accident.

I had about 4/5 cars behind me and not one stopped to help, then it was a job to get it to the side of the main road.

Damage to the bike: Snapped front brake lever.

I had to ride the way home... probably about 3/4 miles with just the back brake and a pillion to help slow me down.

I am SO angry. I dunno if this post even makes sense, cos I'm still a bit shaken up and I fucked up infront of my b/f so I'm just... gonna stop typing now and hit some pillow.

Sad Sorry to hear that. Glad there are no injuries though.

On a random note - Annabella and I were in the video shop at the weekend, and noticed the film "Memento Mori" on the shelf and thought of you. Thumbs Up Laughing

Chill.

Nothing to worry about, I've dropped bikes before; as a 14stone bloke with a reasonable amount of muscle in there as well as the flab.

In the end, you need to get a new brake lever - big deal, I've been through three at a single track day before! Smile

If you're boyfriend really thinks less of you because of this (ignoring light hearted piss taking Smile ) then best bet is probably to replace him at the same time Razz.

try ak bike breakers (2 stroke specialists)

tel: 0870 066 0361

cheaper than buying new. if its just the lever (not the master cylinder aswell) should be quite cheap

Why didn't your boyfriend help you pick it up?

Your bf shouldnt be bothered other than that your both ok as mentioned.

Try riding on your own again until your get your confidence back as well.

Also get hold of a few old matresses and lay your bike onto it. Then use different techniques to lift it up. Will be good for your strength as well. Smile

Strange I thought of the same member when I saw the song "Memento Mori" on the new Streets album and I finally know what it means! Laughing

Cool, for those that saw things and thought of me... it makes me feel all nice inside, so thankyou!

Thanks for the words. He did help to pick it up and push it to the roadside. Sorry if my initial post sounded critical of him, he was doing everything to make me feel better about the situation once we got home. Even got a cup of tea! Thumbs Up

Just a bad point of mine, I'm just incredibly critical of myself and I hate messing up because I'll beat myself up about it for ages. Especially when stuff happens infront of people.

I'm kinda happy with myself that I managed to ride it back with the crap back brake w/o incident. So I think that was something good to come from it.

Now I've just gotta tell my dad. Neutral Thumbs Down

sorry to hear about your incident.

can you explain about the "it went over" bit? did you do a huge endo and flipped the bike straight over?

or did the front wheel give way?

Forget about it, I went through a stage of a crash (usually resulting in hospital) every 3 weeks for a bit. Just one of those things, you learn from it.

Check the tyres too, for wear or any crud on them which could have made you slip, more than likely the road itself though.

Don't stress over it. I doubt there's one member of BCF (with a bike) who hasn't dropped it more than once.

And if there is, they're a liar. Laughing

Yeah I bet a hell of a lot of us have a 'dropped bike' story. Like tom Jones said 'Its not unusual' Laughing

I dropped mine outside the GF's house while some old bint was gobbing off at me. I jumped round and picked it straight up (CBR6 and a 11st bloke) but it wasnt natural strength that let me do it, it was the adrenalin! Since then Ive got a lot better at picking up bikes after I get knocked off, lowside, stop to help someone who crashed, gf ran over best mates bike etc etc. The old 2 cupped hands under the lower side bar and lift technique works wonders.

As for your confidence juts put it down to a ridiculous accident and not a slur on your personal competence. All it requires is a lapse of concentration and two or things to build up and bite you. If you start worrying and panicking about this you are just going to get all het up and possibly put yourself in a similar position - you got away lucky, a free lesson almost, now use the experience to prevent it happening again.

Get that front brake fixed, get your bloke back on the back and go out there and prove you can do it. Thumbs Up

Had the boot in the kickplate twice (damn those sidi vertigo's!!) but managed to keep the bike on my right leg whilst I freed the left foot. That panic feeling is immense, it makes my legs shake. You have to throw your whole weight to your free foot to save it. It happened on a hire bike (hornet six) and about two weeks ago on my two week old SV, although I was in the garage then. When it happened on the hornet I was right outside of work, now THAT would have been embarrassing!! Laughing

Baggy jeans the ultimate in making you look like a tit Laughing

Went to pull off and my jeans got caught up in the peg some how. I was trying to take a corner and get my foot on the peg to the amusement to every one behind me. Laughing

Also went to put my foot down in the same pair and it got caught on the kickplate and had to hold the bike up at a stupid angle and try and push it back up with one leg on the ground and the other cocked in the air Laughing

Don't worry babe, I dropped my RVF on my first rideout with others! At a roundabout I hesitated a slpitsecond too long and then gracefully laid it down on it's side. I laughed as it happened as I knew how funny it would look to the others behind.

Don't get pissed off with yourself. I too and way overly critical of my riding and everything else I do for that matter. There is not too much wrong with giving yourself high standards, but just don't forget to give yourself the credit when you achieve those standards! Thumbs Up

To be honest it would be the effect of having a lardy bloke, sitting very high up (acts as more levering force, can be arsed figuring out how to explain it, but weight slung low down makes less difference to balance) makes it MUCH harder for you to support the weight.

This a simple cock up youd usually be able to lever back up results in falling over.

Its when you get lardy pillions that like jumping off the bike JUST as you are coming to a stop that are the people i love Evil or Very Mad

Oh, and ive caught my trainer lace in my right footpeg. Came to stop (in mood/rush), went to through it over on the right side to flick out sidestand, and just ended up on the floor.

Now that was an arse

It's the disk locks that get me. Went through 2 disks year before last due to the ninja like abilitites of a flourescent yellow security device. I swear the bastard thing wasn't there as I walked back to the bike, it somehow teleported from pocket to brake as I started and went to pull away Embarassed

Laughing at G however, sounds like that could have got interesting.

MementoMori, we spoke a year or two back in PM when you originally posted here about wanting some pointers on riding etc. Offers still open, it may also be worth looking up your local IAM group to help get some more confidence. That's sounding to me like your main problem, if you're obsessing all the time about what you and the bike are doing then it gets very, very hard to ride either safely or well and all too easy to start misjudging and freezing up at inopportune moments (or grabbing a bigger handful of brake than intended, the usual reason for a front wheel to slide out like that). The front brake lever is a five minute job to change though, and shouldn't cost much more than £8 or so.

I've parked up, got off bike to the right hand side and caught the tail with my foot which resulted in the side stand kicking itself back up. Havent oiled that spring since. Embarassed
