I was 11, in the IOW with school.

It was my birthday and I had a special table for dinner which all of my friends sat on along with some ugly whinging tart who wanted some of my cake, fucking bitch (bear in mind we were 11)

She was a veggie.

I then proceeded to eat a burger in front of her whilst shouting "MOLLY MOO COW IS BEING PACKED IN A VAN TO GO TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE".

She then projectile vomited on the floor and ran out of the room crying.

Man, annoying women are fucking funny to wind up.

The thing is, its shattered the dream.

I find the fact shes stupid enough to be a veggie as upsetting as if she had the clap.

And i feel free to say stupid, because there is NO good reason for being a veggie.

Had a mate at uni who said she was a veggie just cos it was quicker then saying, i'll eat fish, chicken occasional, and sometimes bacon.

And im sure some people do have allergies.

Any other reason is just some bizarre fabrication.

Right, i've always had a distinct loathing of vegetarianism, as it is, no matter what angle you look at it, complete and utter shite.

Now, just had a minor row with a girly mate of mine who is pretty damn hot (pic here, girl on right) but i learned not long ago is a virgin because shes so religious... yet she gone round telling everyone shes a lesbian.

Now i just said i feel aneamic, she said she gets that alot too, because shes a veggie.

Then we get in this vague conversation about how vegetarianism is better etc etc.

So i linked her to this Article: Why we should force feed vegetarians lard which ive read fully and have not found a SINGLE point i disagree with.

With that in mind, and the fact i lived with about 2 vegetarians last year, and i know lots of other ones (all of which seem to be doing 'stupid' degrees, mainly psychology) id like to know if there are any on this board, what caused them to do it -ie their logic behind it-, and whether they were repeatedly dropped on their heads as babies.

Why should what other people eat bother you? Chill.

Its kinda like when someone tells us they wont go near bikes, cos some cousin twice removed once grazed his knee.

Or people wont go near drugs, cos they once heard about someone who took 15 ecstacy, danced for 10 hours straight and drank shitloads of tequila and they died...

Weird that.

I dont like people who have absolutely no idea about what they are talking about, trying to act superior to me, especially when they start quoting complete bullshit science.

My two passions are bikes and biology. I happen to know a fair bit about both. So usually, unless i cant be arsed, if someone is boasting/preaching about something they obviously have no fooking idea about (such as 120mph mitos etc) i explain to them they are idiots.

Here's some clues:

1. That lass doesn't want to shag you because you have a closed mind and you show no interest or even empathy towards things she might find important. She told you she is a lesbian so not to hurt your feelings.
2. Once she finds out you posted her picture on a mong website, called her an idiot and broadcast intimate sexual information about her, she's definitely never going to shag you.
3. If you have a genuine interest in science, you need to be able to learn the difference between a well reasoned, logical arguement and diatribe posted in a blog.
4. Look up the word "prejudice" in a dictionary.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

So erm, any chance you happen to be a vegetarian Wink

And also, that article if memory serves was originally part of someones degree work and so incredibly well researched, and THEN released onto the web.

I like the way not one person who defends vegetarianism will actually take their argument further then 'you're wrong and a bigot... so nur'.

Also, not ONE fact from that argument is falsified, nor even exagerated. Now true the whole 'new puritanism' thing might be a source of debate, but there is not a SINGLE part of the rest of it to disagree with.

You have made your choice and now you are trying to vindicate it. It will not work on me Wink

Oh, and i think the whole lesbian thing was a phase, but the fact she had a gf for 3 months plus is a slight give away Laughing

That took a while to read!

It is a good article/essay. It sold the point to me completely. I don't blame some veggies here for taking exception to BRs attitude but you should come forward with a better arguement than just shouting prejudice!
Otherwise it just goes to prove the whole article correct.

In my experience I have to say that I've found veggies hard to fathom. I lived with a girl at Uni who who wouldn't eat meat because she 'didn't like the taste', however she at those fake sausages, bacon and quorn chicken!?!?! What the fuck.

I cant rate anymore, but EXACTLY.

Its all bollocks. If someone gave me a compelling argument then maybe, but as i said to Cag Gez on msn, the worry is these kind of buffoons are the ones that convince people GM foods are dangerous (even though they can solve world hunger) whilst in the same breath trying to comdemn meat eaters for starving the third world.

Its just plain bizarre.

Not to mention the points it raises about idiot vegetarians force feeding their kiddies nothing but lettuce and wondering why they become ill.

Whoever wrote that article is one of three things:

1. A very good troll.
2. An inadequate academic who displays very little common sense or scientific rigour. I'm not sure if his area of expertese would be anthropology, economics, biology or psycology, but I'm not at all sure he has a good grasp of any of these.
3. A sexually frustrated and angry young man, possibly drunk at the time of writing.

It's clearly NOT well researched; there are no actual references.

It's not falsifiable simply because a great deal of it is opinion (look for little clues in the text; phrases like "this is my belief). The essay reads like an exercise in using every common form of logical fallacy in a single text, and as such does not stand up to any real scrutiny.

Don't they teach this stuff at University any more?

Perhaps if you didn't attack people so vociferously for their personal lifestyle choices they would be more willing to discuss them in depth with you.

I have a perfectly well balanced diet, thank-you.

Ok.

Well, around 1/3 of the world is actually vegetarian, large swathes of China, many Buddists, lots of Thailand, etc etc.

Now, as cavemen, especially in environments with harsh winters, we were vegetarian for much of the year when catching the sparse few animals wasn't worth the effort.

Anyway. Back to the point.

I choose not to eat meat because: I don't trust the meat industry, I don't agree with the cruel ways in which the animals are kept or killed, and to be honest, I have been since I was born.

I'm healthy, well built, and rarely ill.

I've never attempted to force my views on anyone. I have never ever objected to anyone eating meat, in my presence, even in my own house. If I take a girl out for dinner and she has meat, I pay for it.

It's just not for me, in the same sense that I don't have any interest in football, I don't discourage others from it though.

To be honest I don't even tell people unless they ask, or offer me meat. And if they do, I thank them for their hospitality. If anyone asks about my choice I'm happy to discuss it sensibly. Most vegetarians are the same - sounds like you're hanging with the wrong people.

If I'm honest, vegetarians bring out the worst in meat-eaters, they often feel the need to justify their choice, with such rants as 'we're meant to eat animals' through 'you get ill if you don't' through to the alltogether more honest 'i like meat' which I respect.

So you cant be a vegetarian then?

As a point you do realise nutrients such as iron, although they may occur in large quantities in some vegetables are MUCH harder to extract. I really cant be arsed going into depth, id have to go upstairs, grab some books and copy a few pages in.
But basicall stuff like liver and general meat is a FAR better source of rarer nutrients.

Also, hes obviously injecting some humour into a well reasoned essay. In some subjects such as media studies they actually quite enjoy people doing that, and even if perhaps, it is not done as a piece of degree work but is infact, 'just' a weblog, it does not escape the fact that it is all correct.

If i write on here my name is richard, and i ride a cbr 600. You may not believe it, but it doesnt make it any less true.

Also, the reason most people are not 'discussing' why they are vegetarians is because its a completely illogical argument. Its like when women just cry for nothing, and you ask them what's wrong. They wont tell you, because they know its bollocks.
So they just stick to the 'you wouldnt understand' tripe.

It makes about as much sense as someone become a zoodophile because its 'more natural'. And you notice few of them come to defend there arguments do they. Its a case of, you dont get me you bigot.

I find it very hard to empathise with a group of people who happily deprive themselves of a major food group we are innately programmed to want, then act like they have a phobia to it.
Because they dont like the way animals are farmed.

And what lends it even less credence is the 'people' (i use the term loosely) who tend to be vegetarians tend to be;

Female
Whiney
Immature

OR

Blokes trying to nail above type.

Give me a second and i will find a link to a great penn and teller video.
Admittedly its mainly about being anti-Peta (another thing im VERY strongly against), but the fact pretty much every Peta supporter is;

a) completely clueless to the actual options, and thinks only of the kittens Rolling Eyes
b) is a veggie.

Its bizarre.

Now, here is something that is bizarre:

You're sticking to the opinion that vegetarians are usually immature whiney women with no valid reason to be so.

All the veggie hoards that have answered you here have been healthy, articulate well-reasoned males, pointing out that it's a personal choice and not something they tend to bang on about.

A number of perfectly valid reasons have been put forward for not eating meat:
* economic necessity
* like kittens
* just don't like the taste/texture of meat
* lack of trust in the meat industry
* religious belief

So, it seems the arguement is broader than you imagine.

Time to look up that word...

And give up with that article, as a work of humour or as a troll, it's good. As science, it's crud.

Ok that was an intelligent post, thank you Thumbs Up

And your philosophy towards people who do eat a normal omnivorous diet is quite refreshing.

However, id like to ask if you think this 1/3 of worlds pop do so by choice, or purely because rice is easy to grow in most of these poor areas?
Im pretty sure if you gave them the choice of a steak or a bowl of rice for dinner they would take the steak.

Also with your notion that people would find it easier to eat vegetables over the year if harsh winter. I find that notion bizarre. Animals are adapted to their environment, as such they are VERY good at surviving.

Now before we destroyed the areas in which wildlife could live, they flourished. This meant it was quite easy to find at the very least carrion.
Now plants which we can digest well enough to gain decent sustenance tend not only to be quiet hard to grow, and yield small amounts, but they also tend to be incredibly seasonal.

Also, if its been a harsh year, there will be plenty of undernourished animals waddling about, converting lower animals/plants we cant digest into an animal we can. Whereas pretty much all the crop plants would have been killed off by the frost etc.
This is because an animal has behavioural adaptations so if it gets ruddy cold, it buggers off and sits in the lee of a cliff or such.
Plants just sit there.

Also i find it bizarre at the end that you say vegetarians bring out the worst in meat eaters, in that we have to justify our choice.
That sounds abit backwards...

Thats like homosexuals forcing heterosexuals to explain their choice. (NB: im not homophobic in the slightest, however it is obvious a heterosexual lifestyle is /normal/, even if looking at nothing else but biology)

It infers you now believe vegetarianism is normal, and being a standard omnivore is odd.

Also as to the meat industry, that is a fair point. Except it falters as soon as you factor in the types of vegetarians that wont eat haribo sweets with gelatin in, that wont eat cheese and onion crisps with some extract of animal in them or the ones that dont like to handle meat.

Also, would you be ok to eat meat you had raised yourself, seen had a good life, slaughtered properly, and only good cuts served to you? Would that change your philosophy?

As in that article, there is no way that processing/slaughtering animals will ever make its way onto postcards. Just like the constant rectal exams will never make their way onto ER.
Doesnt mean it doesnt happen.

Just because it isnt pretty, doesnt mean it is wrong.

As for the 'mystery meat' point, whilst i agree with mince/spam etc (both of which i eat readily, because believe me, ive seen what goes on in bread factories, and im sure its the same everywhere Shocked), where is the mystery in a huge chunk of beef?

Also, beef is JUST beef. They dont add anything to them (over here at least), asides from possibly some water content and i believe some pigment to make them look more appetising. Get them from a butchers and you wont get that.

Whereas fruit and veg are absolutely MULLERED with 'chemicals', not to mention most vegetables are actually toxic to an extent.

Now so far, the only argument for it i can really see as having any logic to it is the 'i dont like the taste', however this is also bizarre when people eat quorn/burgers/etc designed to taste like meat, and kick off when meat touches any food they might eat.

As for the football analogy, you are quite correct. I dislike football too, and whilst it amuses me to see some peoples faces crinkle in horror when i say id rather go out on my bike while the engand game is on, i dont think its quite the same.

I enjoy a good kick about with mates, i just dont care what 22 overly paid mugs legging it about a field do with their 90 minutes.
But it doesnt harm me, or anyone else, nor does it inconvenience them.

If someone invites me round to watch football, i'll decline. I wont turn up then demand a tv with moto gp on.

Like i say, im glad at least one person has taken the time t put up a logical argument, but i dont think its swayed me.

Would i be prejudice for not 'understanding' an anorexics philosophy on healthy eating?
How about a bulleamic?
Or even just someone on the Atkins diet?

Also the fact we havent had any females speak up is purely a case of who is present.
We are on a board, full of bikers (a male dominated pursuit at the best of times), and the only females around on here arent likely to be the girly think of the kittens type.

Also as to your reasons;

-Economic Necessity;
Are you trying to seriously tell me, you can eat both healthier and cheaper on a zero meat product diet? Bullshit. 4 tins of tuna £1, tin of mayo 50p, loaf of bread £1, lettuce £1.
How much to get the same nourishment as that through lentils and chickpeas? Thats £3.50 to eat for a week (i should know, been at uni eating that or thereabouts to be cheap).

-kittens;
Mass scale agriculture is very ecologically destructive and lowers biodiversity.
Also domesticated pastural animals have a bloody good life compared to anything else, and if you dont like how Morrisons bettabuy chickens are killed, get free range ones from a good farm.

-Taste/texture;
again, why quorn or 'meat substitute' dishes.
Why zealous about not letting meat touch their food or skin
Why avoid ANY meat products (unless its leather Rolling Eyes)

- Meat industry trust
Again, easy solutions detailed above

-Religion
Wouldnt get me started on that Evil or Very Mad
However from my understanding although most religions have some foods they may not eat such as pork or beef, they are not expected to abstain from fish or gelatin.

i am in favour of anything thing that makes girls less likely to be fat.

I also think it must be nice knowing that you have not supported animal suffering in any way.

I could probably go vegetarian if I wanted to as i quite like nuts and pulses, but I dont care enough about animals to bother changing my eating habits and I do like meat.

Religions that restrict eating meat for health reasons arent bothered about animal welfare.

I think Buddhism discourages eating meat more for reaons of animal welfare. I think there is some wierd religion in India that says you cant even hurt a plant so you live on nuts and seeds and fruit.

Agreed, but they are far more likely to be nutters.

What makes you think domesticated animals suffer?
Its like PETA want to abolish the 'slavery' of pets, by just releasing all animals.
No seeing eye dogs, no old women with her pet cat that she puts vet bills before heating (the evil cow).

No all the animals would just be released.

Its bullshit mickey mouse fantasy.

Its in the farmers best interest to look after his flock/herd well, and as for slaughtering if they are tense when killed the meat isnt as good. So usually they take special care.

You think without farming all animals would die comfortably in their sleep of old age... ?

not all vegetarians are militant vegans

hitler was a vegetarian but not all vegetarians are hitler either

i certainly wdnt pay the extra for organically reared meat, so any meat I eat involves animal suffering of some sort with the possible exception of lamb. I accept this as a part of life but i can see the attraction of living a life which doesnt support the keeping of animals in confined conditions.

damnit, u are making me consider being a veggie

but no, i love meat too much

Vegeism has only one point, imo, that is that its environmetally freindly (or more so than meat.)

As for the bird.
She can be as fit as you want, but she is religious and a vege.
Might as well have aids...

About as appealing.

This topic has been covered time and time again, and my only reply in each is "If animals weren't meant to be eaten, they wouldn't be made out of meat".

Also i find it bizarre at the end that you say vegetarians bring out the worst in meat eaters, in that we have to justify our choice.
That sounds abit backwards...

Sigh - I said meat eaters feel threatened and feel the need to justify their choices, not that they have to.

I'm bored of the standard reactions of people when they find out I don't eat meat

"Oh you have to to get a healthy diet" No, you dont.

"We're meant to eat animals" We're not meant to fly but we get in planes, humans have something called free will.

"I've always eaten meat" I've always not. Big Whoop.

"You don't know what you're missing out on" Nor do you.

"Every animal you don't eat I'll eat two" You are a buffoon. I look forward to your eventual heart-attack related demise.

Vegetarianism as I see it is a philosophy, not a diet. I do everything I can to reduce the suffering of animals, so I don't eat meat, I avoid leather where I can and do my bit to help, which may or may not incude the odd hunt sabotage....

That's just my way of life. I only have to justify it to one person. And it's not you, it's me. And the same applies to you, ifyou're happy with yourself, great.

I have very very rarely heard an answer like Miraclefish for being a vegi, a friend of mine was dead against the slaughter of animals, certain crisps he wouldn’t have, certain sweets etc. but wore the leather shoes.

His mum and dad were pretty strict on the no meat thing, they ate fake sausages and such which are pretty foul……which led me to believe that they had something to do with the ideas he had.

I see it like this, he tells me that he does not “Support” the meat slaughtering, so that’s a good thing.

My thoughts were, why, you’ve not help one animal, and proved nothing.

He told me (when drunk) that I am putting nasty things in my body that I shouldn’t and believed the animals suffered before being put on my plate.
I didn’t feel all to good about it, perhaps I have an unstoppable function in me called “Self awareness” this does make me stop and think about the welfare of an animal but I wont stop eating meat because as well as tasting good, it makes me feel good, in my mind I feel I need it.

He might not support it by not eating the meat, but that’s like saying I pay £10 a month to Africa to help stop famine. It will never stop, the reasons being, the worlds food chain and our greedy economy need it.
The world will not struggle with 1/3 of the world being vegi, but if the rest joined then it would.
Some food supplement humans with things they got from meat a long time ago, vegetarians of today don’t necessarily need meat to survive as conditions are pretty fucking easy to get along with.

If you only ate plantation in some of the roughest country’s of this planet you’d die in just over a week, this doesn’t mean being a vegetarian is a bad thing it just means it’s not the future as some of them try and point out.

The only way they get their exotic fruits, the freshest greens, the best beans, is most probably because of some hard working, chunky truckers who has to survive his day on a 3500 calorie full English to cross the country.

Personally I think everyone has a choice to eat what they want for whatever reason they want...

Bonny, this thread is hypocritical, you have a go at Vegetarians forcing their views on other but yet you force your article on them.

id like to take the meat eaters a step further.

If i eat a bit of extra chicken not because I need it, but because I like the taste, an extra chicken will die to meet the demand.

So thats killing chickens for entertainment.

So cock fights should be allowed where cockerals lay into each other for my entertainment.
