I just called my bank and having gone through the keying in numbers bit, was put through to an Asian lady. I explained what I wanted and she then said she would put me through to a colleague, who turned out to be Scottish gentleman.

Rather embarrassingly, I found it much easier to understand her than him! Embarassed Laughing

I used to go out with a guy from Belfast, and I had no problems with the accent, being Irish myself.

However, whenever we would call for a pizza or an Indian it was always me who had to talk on the phone because my O/H could not make himself understood.

Think of how it is for us Southerners!

I rather talk to Asians than Scots, or N England!!! Laughing

The Northern Ireland accent is just a mumble anyway!

Southerners speak proper, like. Razz

My mum is from Derry and my dad is from Leicestershire. I was born in Leicestershire and brought up in Dublin (until I was 23). I've been living back in the UK for 17 years.

My accent is probably best described as BBC English, with a touch of Dublin.

When I lost my HSBC card, I had to phone up the bank, and got redirected to some asian lady as well, and it literaly took 45mins to state what was missing and who I was. What made it worse was the phone was in the bank and there was quite a few people waiting in the que watching Embarassed

I was once in a bar in Brighton trying to order a Coca Cola, using the shortened title, if you see what I mean... I could not make myself understood ("you want a cork??") After many attempts I just had to ask for Pepsi instead Laughing
