Been offered this K reg , street fightered CBR600. Got 42,000 miles on the clock. Is this too high a mileage? Would a CBR600 be OK as a first big bike? Let me know your thoughts please lads Thumbs Up

Make sure you check it over thoroughly and don't pay /too/ much, providing you can be a bit sensible with the throttle, it should be fine.

I'd agree with G on this one. Check it thoroughly, and don't pay too much, cos lets face it, the CBR is common enough that there's plenty out there, so it's pretty much a buyers market IMO.

As long as you can restrain yourself from being too enthusiastic with the throttle too early on, you'll find that your experience and skill will grow to match the bikes capability.

(The 1st bike I ever rode after my DAS was a CBR600RR, and while the improved performance was quite a shock to the system after driving a 1.8 diesel Fiesta, it's a great bike and highly recommended Thumbs Up Wink )

If it's benn streetfightered then it's probably been thrown down the road. Depends on how recent the conversion is, so look for other damage/repairs. I'd also check first if the insurance quote is in your ballpark as some can be funny with streetfighter/modified bikes (as they can't get the value from a list).

Otherwise as said if you check it over and you're happy with the price then it's down to you.

Accepted and agree Very Happy. I ride such a machine. However, depends on how many times and how it was done. Also insurance repair or done private? Did the frame need checking? Are the forks original or from different bike? Have they been straightened?

Not saying the above applies to this CBR600. I'm just musing on buying 2nd hand bikes and race rep to streetfighter conversions in general.

At least with a streetfighter there shouldn't be any plastic hiding potential serious problems with the frame etc.

i should imagine if he made the bike into a street fighter himself the bike should be in pritty good condition just from the fact if hes spent time working on it, it will have to be up to at his standards, if his standards are the same as yours then id say it would be a good deal.

Streetfighter means it's had a fight with one or more streets and the owner couldn't afford to repair it.

Treat it with as much suspicion as a cut-price sweet shop named "Mr G. Glitter's Confectionery Emporium".

look at more than one bike, have a look for something similar and see what that is going for
