i work or rather worked Confused in a nursing home.

from the begining briefly,

when i had my bike accident on my third at this job i had to take 2 months off due to injuries. wheni returned i was told i was not permant staff anymore i was changed to bank staff, only called when needed. not much good to me and the rent. anyway i lost my house over it cause they didnt call me to ork for a while there cause no one was off sick.

during that time i ibtained qualifications. moving and handling course and food and hygiene. i thought this was great cause i can use these anywhere to get a job in this field. and i was told if i wanted the certificate i just had to ask and they would print it out.

i asked for these and i was told i wasnt allowed them cause they dont give them out. they are only for their use?

i went to another interview for a job in the hospital and they wernt to impressed i didnt have anything to show. i asked the place i work again and they said no.

are they allowed to do this? and what can i do?

If they are like NQV's or something similar, like basic food hygiene, etc etc, can you not just appy to the relevant body for replacement certificates?

i would have to go to an outside body and pay for them where as they provided the training and said i would get the certs. it would just be very handy to have them to get other jobs.

Can't you ask them to print a list of your qualifications?

It's a tough one.

Things like moving and handling are a touchy subject with insurance companies.

Being a St John's volunteer you have to do 3 Moving and Handling courses. These colver different situations. However, if I was to take a job in a supermarket, the qualification wouldnt be acceptable due to insurance policies.

This may well be the case. If you have First Aid this is something you can take with you.

Having had a think a work around is to update your CV. Put the training courses along with other qualifications under a Qualifications and Training section. Then after the course title put 'certificate & proof of pass held by current employer' (or if not current employer put the name of the employer, the CV will have a list of these anyhow) or instead of actual text put in a * and an explaination footnote at the bottom of the page.

That way a potential employer can see what you've done and if they think it's really necessary make some checks.

Hope that makes sense.

HTH Thumbs Up

Get a friend to creat an official looking letter with a fake company logo and stuff on it, and write asking for a reference..... Thumbs Up Then you'll know.

My wife is a nurse and she holds "management of aggression" training days.
We print out the certificates ourselves using MS Publisher. Do the same, get someone you know to sign (unless you know someone won't recognise that it's your hand writing ) it and away you go.

i was thinking of asking the member of staff that told me i could get a cert that trained me to do it. but it all has to go through the secretary as she is only one in that office that allowed totouch anything and she was the one that told me twice no.

Not being funny but,

Manual Handling and Food Hygeine are probably just 'internal' training courses and aren't really worth anything.

I did courses under both of those names whilst working at Waitrose as a counter assistant. I told my next employer (sainsburys) and they said I had to do it again, because their insurance only covered them if I had done their training.

TBH unless it is some sort of accredited course like an NVQ, you don't have a leg to stand on.

And I wouldn't describe them as 'qualifications' because thats not what they are. You received training in both of those areas... you aren't qualified. The two things are different enough to get you into trouble.

Chalk it down to experience, either get a new job describing that stuff as 'training received' or go out and get a real qualification.

{edit} Sorry that last bit sounds a bit harsh... I don't mean any offense, I just mean go and do an NVQ/A-Level/Foundation year/Degree etc... {edit}

Yeah, I worked in a converted firestation, and there was a hoist between floors. Some H&S consultant came along and trained as how to use it. ((It was pretty obvious tbh, but training was needed for insurance etc etc )) and then we all got cetificates put on a wall in the office

Not much use if I was employed elsewhere, it was for that one unique hoist, in one old converted building -- but still something to mention on a c.v all the same.
