you can get a thundercat for £1500 easy. rookie got his for £800

TT600s are more agile and sporty, and much cheaper than a gsxr600 or cbr600 of the same year

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2000-TRIUMPH-TT600-YELLOW-BLACK_W0QQitemZ4649407836QQcategoryZ36093QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

that one shd go for less than £1800 i reckon

i prefer power delivery on 2001 onwards tt600's

the 2000 is all or nothing with a very peaky power delivery and not much mid range

even better is if you get a tuneboy lead and software that reprograms the ecu to give more torque at mid and low revs.

if you end up deciding to spend a bit more like £2500, litre bikes are in a lot better condition than 600s of similar age. Id have an r1 over an r6 anyday when its the same price and in better condition.

Not a bad deal, seen this bike and its pretty tidy.

If your after a purely fun tool your better off with a 600cc as they are much lighter and more agile.

For 2K if your VERY lucky you will get a J model ZX6R but would get a really nice G model.

CBR's would be much older as its a honda and they seem to hold their value better.

The GSXR's even for an early K model are more expensive than ZX6R's of the same year, which I dont rate them as high as the 6R.

However with some clever shopping you could get an early R6 for around 2K.

How flexible is your budget?

i'm shopping for a mate (he's impressed with the deals I get)

budget's not flexible, and while he would consider a 600, a 750 or bigger would be preferred.

I have seen '97/'98 GSXRs going for around the £1600 - £1800 mark.
Condition is not That important, as long as all the body-panels are there, they're not scratched to fsck, and the mechanics are sound.

I disagree. I tried an r1 and an r6 and even though the r1 is slightly hevaier, its weight is a lot lower so it feels as agile, maybe more.

The r1 was a lot esier to ride.

i think you are comparing a thunderace to sportier 600s. The r1 was certainly a lot more agile than the thndercat.

I reckon the zx8 will be more like an r1 than a thunderace.

I would say tho, that you dont really rev a litre bike in the same way tho so miss out on some fun there.

I've passed on your details to him.

I know he was hoping to get a bike and insurance out of £2k, but I think he's stretching himself for the bike's he's looking at. (he's not as jammy as I am at getting bargains Wink ) so I think yours might be a tad out of reach for him.

Cheers
