I've been looking at these for a while now.. hoping to try and arrange a day at St.Albans some point moderately soon. At this stage really looking to just gauge interest, so that I can contact them and see what kind of deals can be had relative to numbers. But overall I would expect a similar cost to go karts.

https://dusty.my-site.me.uk/rage1.jpghttps://dusty.my-site.me.uk/rage2.jpg

The track (I think) is about 900m long, so better than most kart tracks.

So er, whack a post in here if you are interested and I'll give them a call about a decent group booking (hopefully). Smile

Hopefully if we can get a few peeps together... ideally hire the whole track for a day, then with any luck the price could be kept down. Smile

At ther moment I have only been able to find corp event packages, with about 2hrs on track.. But once I have an idea of who's interested I'll call the centre direct and see how cheap they'll go for a whole day.

Sorry, when I said 2hrs.. it's 2 hrs total, including briefing, training and time on track, which seems a bit pants. That normally costs £45/55, depending who it's with..

I'm hoping if we can get a few peeps together, I'll be able to go direct to the organiser, rather than through these 'corperate middle-men' type companies.

Just found this, although it is through some middle man company as you would call it.

Quote:
Operation: Runs all year round on selected weekdays and weekends. Only two buggies are operated on the track at one time. Sessions are 20 laps, max 30 minutes driving time. 2:1 instructor ratio.

I suppose thats the deal they are offering. But what about the two buggies on track at any one time?

I'd be up for it if we can get a bit more info.

I hadn't noticed that.. that's the same company I had looked at..

I think probably the reason for only 2 on track is the fact that is 2 buggies wheels touch while they are doing 50mph.. I suspect the organisers would be facing a bit of a repair bill. Go-karts wheels are not so exposed, plus they are inherently a fair bit more stable to boot imo.

I've just called one that runs days near southhampton, they aren't rage buggies, but look just as much fun.

The cost for a standard package is £45-55 per head, depending when, where and how many people. This covers:
Arrow 6 buggies
Arrow 4 x races for everyone
Arrow depending on numbers, there is normally semi finals and finals for the winners of the heats.

Those figures are from this place:
https://www.stagweb.co.uk/activities/dunebuggy.asp

I'll try calling some others too.

Right I've called a few more..

At st Albans afaik there is no change of negotiating on number of buggies allowed out or max time.. at least not with the middle men. I can't find any direct contact details for the centre, but I've called a few more other places.

The last one sounded fairly promising, is near Rugby and offers a good selection of activities, including honda pilot buggies. It might be good to go for something like this as the buggies might get boring after a while. This place also offer quads, hovercraft and loads of other stuff. I'm told if we can organise a party of 20-30, They will split us into groups and rotate us round the various activities..

So peeps still interested? She's sending me a quote now. Smile

https://www.yeaveley-estate.co.uk

Ask him how much for each of the things, particularily the honda pilot's as they seem closest to those rage buggies for a group..

Below is the information chillisauce.co.uk have sent me, I reckon it looks pretty good.. yeah £120 +vat is quite a bit, but I reckon I could easily find four activities out of those I'd want to do, maybe more.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview:
Set in some stunning countryside, this centre has an ideal blend of fields and woodlands surrounds to for the diverse range of motor and field activities.

With regard to value for money, days spent here as some the best we can offer anywhere in the country. The emphasis is to keep everyone active all the time so, if you are not behind the wheel or the main gun, you are going to be taking on mini events such as remote control cars and air pistol shooting competitions. Combined with great staff and top shelf equipment we know you will be the toast of you mates once you have taken them here.

Build your own superb day by selecting activities from the selection below:

Rage Buggies:
For years the ubiquitous Honda Pilot has been king of the jungle off road karting but now the Rage Buggy has come along and taken the mantle. With a 600cc unrestricted engine coupled with a lightweight chassis, they are well capable of hitting 55mph in only six blistering seconds!

There are two tracks available for the time trial event. The first is very quick and includes a long straight that you can do flat out, followed by a tight hairpin where, let’s face it, you’re likely to spin out. The second is much bumpier and tighter, so it’s slower but a lot more testing.

While you are waiting for your turn, there will be a remote control car contest to keep you occupied.

Quad Biking:
With the Yamaha Breeze quad bike, you’re combining easy automatic handling that lets you concentrate on the event with a punchy 125cc engine for the fast sections.

Start off with some easy practice laps to familiarise yourself with the machine before moving into the wide open fields. Now open up the throttle and get used to the feel of the bike and its capabilities. Next it’s on to a demanding obstacle course where you can pick up points for your team. Finally, head off over hill and down dale on a full-on 3-mile quad trek through the woodlands including steep slopes and pools of water.

Clay Shooting & Air Rifles:
Clay shooting is a fantastic competition. There are two different traps for you to rotate through. You will begin by shooting simple going away or coming on clays to get used to tracking the target and timing your shot. As you improve, the targets will get harder as the competition hots up.

Running simultaneously with the clay shooting will be a fun game of ‘target scrabble’ using air rifles.

Archery and Crossbow:
Archery - love it! I think we all know the basics, bow, arrow and target that looks liked a collection of multicoloured polo mints, from there it starts to get more difficult, it is not an Olympic sport for nothing.

We will have instructors on hand to show you the basics from how to handle the bow and where to aim, they will then try and contain their laughter as your first attempts miss by miles - I guarantee they will. Having learnt that the index and middle finger are not just for flicking V's you will progress, by the end of the session you will be making allowance for wind and distance to keep in touch with the competition.

Haaglund:
We’re fairly confident that you won’t have driven one of these mental vehicles before. Made in Finland for the MoD, the Haaglund looks like something straight out of Star Wars. It is able to conquer seemingly impossible slopes and will likely give you some heart-stopping moments on the way back down. The specially designed course is perfect for putting it (and you) through a series of rigorous paces.

Blind Landrover Driving:
This could be really difficult, what with having to drive a Landrover around a twisted course with a blindfold on. Fortunately, the whole task will be made much easier by having your mates in the back calmly giving you insightful advice.

Armoured Personnel Driving
Just arrived, the true squaddy experience as you drive the Alvis FV432 armoured personnel carrier around the specially designed wood-lined course for the true military experience. Just like being back in ‘Nam.

Hovercraft Flying
A new experience for most, some say ‘its like trying to steer a bar of soap in the bath’. Come and try a truly different activity, flying a hovercraft is a cross between riding a motorcycle and driving a boat.

Paintball:
The site is located within 50 acres of woodland and has a multitude of individual game zones and a wide variety of game themes to keep you entertained. Four hundred paintballs per person are included in the price. This is classed as 2 activities for packages and takes a half day.
Durations:
2 Activities - allow 2.5 hours
3 Activities - allow 3.5 hours
4 Activities and catering - full day

The best way is probably to stick up a poll to decide which activities to go for, assuming enough people are interested.

The paintball methinks is not very good value, counts as 2 activities, so it works out at half a day paintballing for £50, which the dedicated places round here easily beat.

Yeah I like the idea of those two, plus maybe the Haaglund and quads?

This is the Haaglund by the way:
https://dusty.my-site.me.uk/offroad1.jpghttps://dusty.my-site.me.uk/offroad2.jpg

Going paintballing quite soon anyway and have my own crossbow.. so not that up for those two.
