Missus works in a charity shop, came home with some junk for me, cos they can't sell electrics. Got me a freeview box today amongst other things.

I've got a Sky + box, and remote, looks okay.

Any use to anyone? let me know. Otherwise I'll bin it.

I thought they'd stopped charging, and just charge £10PM for the service? Or £15 if you get the 160GB box?

You've got PM thx1138. Smile

Well, Rookie is getting it and is going to try and use it..

I've had a gutfull of eBay for the time being, and have promised myself the rest of the summer off from selling online.

Anyway, it cost me nout, I'm quite happ to give it to someone who can try and use it.

Sky are usually running a free Sky+ box with standard installation of you sign up for the movie/sports pacakges.

They've simply moved the £200 price tag onto customers who want the HD boxes.

Dance!

I'm going to try and rig it up to my Freeview system.

If it's a pipe dream, then I'll put it on eBay as a charity auction, and thx1138 can choose the charity. Smile Thumbs Up

Does it have the card in it (the one that lets you see E4 and MoreFour)?

Why doesn't your missus tell the donatee that they can't sell electrics?

Another example of the corruption in charities, I'm afraid. She decides instead to accept it, and take it home as a personal perk.

Lucky for them, it will probably end up going to charity indirectly anyway.

She did. He was going to bin it, said she could have it if she wanted it.

What often happens is people dump stuff on the doorstep, it's effectively fly tipping, or bring a huge boxload of stuff round, with a few electrics in there.

Too many people, after trying to sell their crap at boot sales, then dump it on the doorstep on a Sunday afternoon, in the guise of donating.

This is how come I get it. I take most of the old computers, and do stuff with them. The alternative, is for their wheelies bins to be overflowing, and then face council bills. It's like talking to a brick wall, trying to explain to the council, that in effect the charity shops are reducing waste, and so it wouldn't hurt to collect extra rubbish, and their storage space is pitiful.

If it were me, I'd price up the good stuff, and stick it in the shop window, but it's all to do with health and safety and testing and stuff.

When I get the old computers, I basically strip them for parts, recycle the paper, re use plugs and fuses, give PC boxes and monitors to people, etc etc

I'm not ripping anyone off, or preventing anyone else buying it, I'm reducing landfill for a while
