Im trying to get a old yamaha DT50 MX running but i'm having trouble get parts as the bike's getting pretty old now.
Anyone know how I can order parts directly from Yamaha or a good dealership in the Essex / east london area that can order them in?
My local bike dealer has taken over 2 weeks to get a couple of parts in and one of those was wrong so Im fed up using them.
Cheers !

Unfortunately, your dealer is probably the best place to get stuff from.

For a start, they will get you genuine parts - beware of pattern parts - A lot of re-manufactured stuff for older bikes seems to be absolute crap these days.

Buying things from e-bay is a big risk - you may end up with misidentified parts (genuine mistakes) or stuff thats actually in worse nick than the bit you are replacing - "Like New" you say?

Autojumbles are another source (at least you can see the bits before you buy them) but it can be a bit if a drudge, although sometimes leading to moments of great uphoria when you find some vital bit in a broken tupperware box underneath one of the stalls.

There's a couple of dealers on the web that deal with "classic japanese restorations", and a flick through "classic bike mag" in WH Smiths might also find you some specialist dealers.

Other than that, welcome to the world of trying to keep old, unloved crap on the road!

finpos.

Why is it taking so long for the dealer to get stuff, not sure how yamahas system works but with Honda they have a massive warehouse in Belgium I think and if the part is still listed they will have it there and they can get stuff to the dealer next day.

Get a copy of MCN and have a look through both the new and second hand parts places - usually best to call a few up to get the best prices/availability.

Best way to get a load of old bike parts is to follow a group of Harley riders round in a van for an hour or two...

Thumbs Up
