I'm curious to know how long you think it takes to get an idea of whether you will like a job or not in the long term. Is your immediate gut feeling right or doe it take you time to get used to it.

You can decide you like a job in a day, month or year.

A month, quarter or year later you can easily then decide you don't like it at all.

It may even be when you get your next job you realise you actually shouldn't have disliked your last one so much, though Smile.

When I moved departments, I 'sat' back and kept my mouth shut as to see how they wanted things doing, to see and to try and understand their methids of madness. It took about a week for me to decide that it wasn't for me.

Its very easy to make a snap decision, my 1st day was really cool, but after the 'honeymoon' period was over its easy to see the wood through the trees and make a better, and more informed decision to whether you like or dislike the new post.

I was screwed over a little in my new post and then I realised that the grass isn't greener on the other side and you can appreciate the way things should be done.

I tried to stick it out for 2-3 months, but was so pissed off, that I considered dropping out of nursing for anything else, so I spoke with my previous manager and moved back. I felt like a disappointment that I had to go back, maybe it was the easy option, but maybe it takes a stronger person to admit they made a mistake than to shut up and put up and be unhappy.

After a couple of days I soon remembered why I wanted to leave in the first place Mad Rolling Eyes

depends on how easy it is to get another one , LT contract at the mo and I'm sick of travelling all over the country to look for a job,

anyway there was this article about a quarter life crisis where people lower their expectations and start hating jobs they used to love,

but thats what sabbaticals or long vacations are for.

It depends on the work place.

I'm in my 5th week of my new job, I feel fairly settled and am getting the hang of things.

However I think it takes between 3-6 months to really feel at home in a job. Your learning curve in this time is so steep that it would be wrong not to question if you are enjoying it or not.

all in all it probably depends on the person, when I played wandering minstral , jumping from temp job to temp job all over the country , I could settle in right off do the work and generally slink off , but them be temp jobs and the normal working staff there usually treated me with utter contempt knowing you had no rights there and would be gone soon.
