I got a new contract with O2 last December so duly cancelled my contract in February with Orange when the 12 months were up. Or so I thought. Because I had exams and related 'stress' to do with University, I never noticed other bills coming in and when I finally did (last month) I phoned them and argued with the daft Indian Bint. Turns out I have no proof as I have not received a 'cancellation' notice and they don't keep records of their phone calls.

She obviously knew how irate I was at this and agreed that she couldnt stop the payment going through but would stop the contract from now on and I would receive no further bills. Fine I said, I wanted nothing more to do with them.

Month flies by and oh...whats this....another bill by my front door? Okay, so I don't think I'd received a cancellation notice again but I'd been pretty damn busy the last month and it's slipped my mind.

Now...where the hell do I stand????

I haven't used this phone sim for over 4 bloody months. And I'm sure last months telephone bills will show a 15-20 minute phone call to Orange. But do I have anything to stand on? I'm fucking........aaaaaaargh Mad Mad Mad

Ask them if they record they're calls from customers and see if they can trace the calls you made? Do you have the dates that you called them?

Only a rough estimate (the last time I received a bill basically). Although, I'm sure if I get our records, I could find out.

26 MAY 19:30 Add to Address book 07973 100150 00:22:20 2.060

26th May then. But what if they have no records? Why the fuck should I be paying money for their fuck ups?!!! Mad I'm fancying just cancelling the debit and telling them to fucking spin on it but know that could make matters worse.

I'd cancel it and report them to the relevant bodies, and your banks fraud/etc department. The chances they'll fuck up the next time are highly likely.

You should get through to an operater if you press 0 but if not...

Send them an e-mail explaining everything and that you are not prepaired to pay the outstanding bills due to their error.

It might be worth calling CAB first, they will tell you where you stand.

I would phone up OFCOM, seriously. They tend to like 'talking' to mobile operators that haven't been doing as they're told.

That, with a letter backing it up, both to OFCOM and the the MD of Orange. With a CC on the top so that they are aware that you've sent it to 'their bosses'

Phone this number - 020 7984 1600 or if that doesn't work try 0870-3768888 ask to be put through to Sanjiv Ahuja's office and explain (nicely) your problem.

If they ask where you got the name/number from just say a 'friend' who works as a journalist on The Times. Wink
