Just noticed that the traffic cops round my area have started to go nuts lately sitting in side roads and hedges waiting to catch bikers and drivers.

This isn't really a rant againt the police i do have a high level of respect for them but i've begun to find their presense (notably the traffic division) very intimidating.

I have just got my hands on an R6 Very Happy and over the last week of riding it the thing i've been most worried about is getting caught for speeding. so rather than enjoying my new toy im constantly looking at the speedo and learning my new throttle position to make sure when the sneeky cops point a radar gun at me i aint gonna get fined. the funny thing is they have been everywhere lately sat in their shiney T5's and Pan Europeans. on my way home i followed an officer on a bike, he parked it on a slip road and hid in a hedge on a blind corner Confused

Am i being totally parranoid by constantly being on the guard for the police? every time i have seen one i usaually have a gun pointed at me Sad i don't think its making me a safer road user cos my attention is focused on my speed more than the road Sad

its kinda sucked the fun outa biking in a way if you ask me, the only time i have enjoyed it is on the country roads out towards pately.

i noticed last sunday on my way back from work at about 5 o clock that the police had a van out on a lay by on a deserted stretch of road in the borough of macclesfield.

if that isnt a money making scam then i dont know what is.

i'm all for red light cameras and speed cameras in 30 zones e.t.c

but on a stretch of road with no turnings or houses on it for 2 miles then you have to question thier motives.

to get someone banned i reckon

they get tired of catching people slightly over the limit, so they want to ban someone for going a bit fast on a long no risk straight

only inthe short term if 100,000s of people get banned they will either struggle to get to work or not be able to work = major loss in income tax.

Me sure I could get to the city on public transport take me 4 times longer , but when the office moves in 9 months time I won't be able to get there sans licence.

I have to agree, i think it has money making motivations behind it!

over in North Yorks the paper, police n council are going crazy to stop the biking deaths so i presume an overkill presence of police and hefty fines are the way to go?

i still say it sucks the fun out of biking round here though.. its just overkill. on my way into town i passed no fewer then FIVE police.. granted three were moving and only two were traffic cops it still sucks. im a fair distance out of town and public transport here is infrequent and is gonna get axed soon so if i lost my licence i'd be screwed Shocked

Shropshire seems to have a fairly relaxed attitude to Speed, unless its Wednesday night.

Working in Bridgnorth I pass the Swancote on the way to and fro and the ammount of bikers that get stacked up behind police cars is rediculous!

First time I was sitting in a lay by scraping a bird off of my lid, and saw a police car roll past, obviously well under the speed limit, daring the bikers to overtake.

Complete and utter piss take really! Rolling Eyes

Personally I would rather see more police cars out and about instead of more speed scameras. I've never seen a big yellow box stop someone for drunk driving, tail gateing or dangerous driving.

If you are worried about getting stopped for speeding, the solution is simple - stick to the speed limits (yeah, I know - I speed as well).

Why would they want to ban someone? If these are all about money, getting someone banned gets them no money and no more money for the length of their ban.

Does the money from the fine go to the Police when it's a copper with a speed gun? I thought it was just the revenue from the 'Safety Scameras' that was given to them.

I've never really thought about it actually, but I assume that all money from speeding offences goes to the police force and then the government.

It's the end of the month, easy way of getting their figures up to targets, the word comes down that the PM needs an increase in the number of detected crimes ....... I wonder Rolling Eyes

its funny how their presence is more felt towards the end of the month Shocked

if i remember correctly, even with a full ban you get a huge fine anyway so at the end of the day the police get their cut of your brass and Brown the bastard gets his... every one is happy really.. apart from the road users Confused

and speed cameras... they are more hastle then they are worth! comming back from huddersfield towards leeds all the idots in front of me slammed on their brakes to saunter past the speed camera one chap nearly caused a pileup cos he spotted the camera at the last min and was on his brakes. Evil or Very Mad

speeding is ideal for crime statistics sort of , in that you have detected crime and solved crime,

catching a speeder = detected AND solved crime.

while things like chav doing criminal damage is ignored as it would go under detected crime but not solved crime.

However if you have noticed recently crime detection AND solving crimes have both fallen.

Long bit

Problem with putting more cops on the beat is that detected crime goes up , hence its easy to massage stats by having cops off the beat doing admin work or dunkin donuts.

And crime stats going down are not indicative of police either , 15 years ago a video recorder cost £100 , and blokes down the pub could sell them for £30 cash, now DVD players new cost only £20, after China did the deal with the devil* , and houses have so many locks on them ,I used to live in Belle Vue and that had 8 locks on the front door.

(*the deal with the devil was absolute capitalism with the condition that we have a one party system , which is a last desparate attempt for the neo semi commies to stay in power by distracting those who would spark revolution by way of money, its going to fail though , 200 mil middle class might be well off , but that still leaves 1.2 billion disenfranchised peasants who are exploited for profit)

Police tend to stay in town or on busy roads.

Go a bit further out, there's roads over the moors up here, where your
lucky to see another vehicle, never mind the police.

Saying that it was worrying, when I stopped last week, no signal on 2 phones.
