I’m not really one for posting emotive personal threads on BCF, it’s just not what I do here - usually the most you’ll get out of me is a piss taking comment or a list of Ten things that are at best trivial and at worst irrelevant.
I’m not posting this to attain some insignificant w@nky green blobs, I just want a wider audience to know how I feel about the loss of my cat – Yep, that’s right, a bloody cat
Betty

You just can't beat a cat for companionship. They're always the same, whether you feel on top of the world or like utter crap, they're somewhere about to be your friend.
We lost one of our cats about 7 years ago now, we still have his sister, and I still feel terriby sad when I think of him. The noisiest cat you will ever meet, called Shakespeare, and so much fun. If you did the little sucking noise cats answer to, from one side of the house, if he was inside you can guarantee he'd be there within a minute. He was taken by the road, and his sister is going on 16 now, and how it changed her is remarkable. She used to be so quiet in comparison, shy as anything. Now she's perhaps even noisier than him, in frequency rather than volume perhaps.
Just feel glad that she was taken from you 'naturally', in that you made the choice on her behalf, so she could slip away in comfort. Feel better mate. |

Sixteen years, a good lifetime for a cat and a lifetime of memories for you. Gone but not forgotten, as it should be

There's a bit of me that feels embarrassed and guilty for feeling so much sorrow - It IS just an animal and in some peoples eyes they're petty close to vermin (especially when they crap in your garden )
To be honest my wife (that'll be 'Len' for all those who got through the random drivel that was my diary entry ) is taking it worse than I am, she was the one that held her as they slipped the needle into her vein and she was the one that Betty's eyes were focused on as she slipped away.
I know from experience that time's a great a healer but thanks very much for the messages of support Guys ____________________ Mellow Yellow

Sorry to hear about Betty, but sounds like she had a fantastic life with you.
My cat, which lives with my mum because he's too old to move from Suffolk to the Midlands, must be about 13 or 14 now. He's got some kind of degenerative neurological thing. Has lots of twitches and things these days, and isn't quite right in the head.
I doubt it'll be long before he'll be shuffling off this mortal coil too...

There is no need to feel guilty about being upset. At the end of the day, you have probably spent more time with Betty than you have with any other living creature (excepting possibly Len and your parents).
It would be most odd if you did not miss someone who had played such an enormous part in your life. I know that everytime we lose a gerbil, there are tears in this house, and when we lost our two previous cats, there was upset.
I just dread when it's Sadie dog's turn, but that will tear my heart out. ____________________ With experience comes age. |
