I would expect you won't be allowed to take the CBT on your bike because it's not road legal.

You DO need your ins docs

You should have insured your bike sooner, (I know..easier said..), even just a couple of days ago would have done..and then got the company to send a quick cover note through to you

I think you may have to re-book Sad

If you want to be legal you will have to wait unitil the start of next week to ride alone I am afraid (providing you pass the CBT) Thumbs Up

Are you planning to do your CBT on your own bike?

If you are, you can't until you have your documents and tax. They simply won't let you. If you've planned to use a hire bike then you'll be fine but it still means you won't be legal to ride your own bike until you have road tax.

It'll be a couple of days wait for a cover note.

Just wait, it's not worth the risk.

if you get insured with e-bike can you not print out a cover note?

Or doesn't that count.

I don't know how likely!

Probably quite likely, it depends completly on who is insuring you, how many people they have to deal with that day etc.

If you buy insurance tonight, there is a good chance a cover note will be sent out tomorrow, your insurance certificate will follow in a few weeks. It's down to royal mail whether it arrives on Saturday.

Before you ask on Saturday, yes it is normal that the cover note only covers you for a month, and yes you do have cover for a year. The note is to just tide you over until the certificate comes.

If you have got a new style MOT, you should be able to tax it online, cos the DVLA server will know when it's been insured.

Other than that, I would speak to your insurers again and tell them that you need the cover note for before the weekend, remember that they work for you in the end Wink

Why were you asking us this instead of phoning the insurance company?

You will get fucked for no tax. Don't risk it.

And you need an insurance cover note in order to get your tax disc.

I spent almost a month riding around without a tax disc and was stopped twice for routine checks the Police & Vehicle Inspectorate do in London.

Both times they knew immediately my bike wasn't taxed, but I had the receipt with me, proving it was a new bike. They could see from their database that the bike was insured, and accepted (even after three weeks) that I was still waiting for the tax disc, as the receipt for was 'on-the-road' and even itemised the tax.

Apparently, unofficially, you've got a two-week grace period when you buy a new vehicle. Didn't check if this applies to second-hand ones, but probably it does, as they know it takes a while to get the cover note. May depend on the copper or parking attendant (in London, they can even get your vehicles impounded if the DVLA says it's not taxed, but one did confirm the two-week grace period, so maybe for them, it is official).

You can only do it online if you have a reminder through the post.

As this is his first time, he'll have to fill in a form V10 and visit the post office.

Not sure about that, you can use the number on the log book, assuming its been updated. Its what i did when my bike was sorn for a long time, I'd never taxed it before and had no problem.

With Ebike insurance you do print out your own cover note, they only send out the full documents.

havent read all the replies but....

once you have:

1) passed your CBT
2) taxed the bike
3) insured the bike (certificate not needed for it to actually be covered, but is needed to tax the bike)
4) made sure the bike is road legal (M.O.T.'d or under 3 years old)

you can ride till your hearts content ona 125cc bike (technically restricted to 33bhp, blah blah.....)
enjoy riding Thumbs Up Mr. Green
