PostPosted: 10:28 - 28 Jun 2006    Post subject: bmw f800s Reply with quote

ive decided im going to go the das route before the end of this year, and so my thoughts are turning to which bike to get once ive passed. im 26, so will have no restrictions, but i dont fancy an all out sports bike to begin with.
naturally im looking at sv650's, gsr600's, etc etc, but the two bikes i keep coming back to are the ducati monster 695 and the bmw f800s.
maybe i just want to be different, but i really like the look of the new beemer, and i reckon that although its expensive compared to a lot of 600's, it should hold its value better, and be reliable and well made?
just after your opinions really!
cheers, nick Smile

Well it ticks all those boxes.
Suggest you get your DAS and then get down to your BMW dealer.

Certainly for the tourers they usually give a whole day's test ride. I know when I asked they did, even suggesting I took it home and introduced it to the missus to try the pillion. You should certainly get the same treatment, just don't bring it back dropped or broken, for some reason that doesn't go down well Wink

I'd go along with the previous posts. If you can afford it then go for it. There's more to life than Japanese sports bikes Very Happy

Thumbs Up

im ringing the local instructor tomorrow to find out how booked up he is, hopefully i can do my theory test asap and then i'll raring to go.
im really enjoying my rs125 at the mo, but i cant help thinking that a race rep isnt really for me, its brill when im in the mood, but not so good when im not! the riding position is uncomfortable for long amounts of time, and i feel like i should be tear arsing around on it every second im on it! (but i do love it!)
im def going to check out the nearest bmw dealer as soon as ive passed my test, if i can borrow one for the day then i'll have a good idea if i want to spend all that cash on one! Smile

Me and mate actually took out one of these and a K1200R out for a test drive theother week. Very easy and very predictable to ride. So light. Easy of the throttle with plenty of umph. Peg hight was just right. Not a long stretch to the grips so should be quite comfortable on a long ride. I'm 5"8 and it was perfect. The gear indictor was a pleasant suprise as was the petrol indicator that showed precisely, to the mile, how much milage was left before the tank was empty. As a first bike it would be a dream. Think I would have enjoyed this and learnt more than on my Fazer 600. Very well built, you could ride it throught the winter and come out smiling. Negatives? Can only think of two.
First the indicators, one switch on each side of the bars but one switch on the right to cancel. seemed very awkward and unnecessary. It sounded dreadful!Like a tractor, very agricultural. We revved it a few times and laughed at how it sounded. Wouldn't have been out of place in a field Mr. Green

As you're looking at new bikes for a first bike, I presume you've got a decent wad of cash you don't mind chucking away. If you have and you like the idea of owning a new bike, the BMW is definitely worth a look.

If you haven't, have a look at the TRX850, fairly similar concept, maybe an ickle bit more sporty, but no where near as sporty as a modern sports bike.
In my opinion looks better and is a good first-big-bike.

Used to think that when I first got my Beemer, but once you stop using the horn button to cancell turning left it starts making sense. Mr. Green

Once my two years restricted are up and some decent second hand ones come up on the market I'm all for getting one of these. I love the styling and from what I heard can sit at over a ton all day and all night. I say go for it, as long as some vids are posted Mr. Green
