Hi everyone… well just joined this forum the other day as I had just got myself a W reg R6 in mint condition with really low mileage… only to have it stolen from work yesterday by 2 guys that dragged it across the car park and put it in the back of there van! I managed to get the reg plate of the van and my boss got a good look at the 2 guys that did it, but what do you think my chances are of getting the bike back, and if I don’t how long does it take the insurance to payout? I mean should I cancel my biking holiday to France at the end of July? This is just my first bike that has been stolen and not sure what to expect now…

Cheers,
Pete

With the reg palte of the van, i'd say they are in for a bust.

But then they might be clever and have a different plate on the van, but then it is better than not seeing them at all.
A van being used in that way isnt impossible to find for the police.
Give all information and a full statement from you and your boss and you should be on the way to getting the bike back.
As it is a R1 it wont be damaged as they will want to sell it or break it to sell.

The police are good with the right information, and worthless if not.
Failing that, go around the area for a few days looking in all the suspect places.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Rolling Eyes firefox that was realy worth the post wernt it...i saw the R1 mistake but it aint THAT important

anyway did your mate(or any 1 @ your work) not try & follow them? as for the van plate you should have contacted police ASAP so they could have been on to it STRAIGHT away cause for all you know police could have went past them while your bike was in back still & seen the plate that was reported & pulled them

either way report van plate, color & what ever else you/mate noticed

sorry to hear that though & hope it gets back to you Thumbs Up

Rotten luck mate. If they used a fake plate on the van so it can't be recovered then I fear your trip may need to be cancelled as insurance companies aren't known for their speediness in paying up even in relatively simple cases like this. Cool

nope no one at work tried to follow them, buy the time we had got a car out the car park they had long gone, but my boss rang 999 as it was happening to let them know as I chased them down the road, so I got the reg number and told the police within 2 mins of them setting off, still waiting for the police to come and see me, phoned them again this morning and they said they are still waiting for an officer to be assigned to it, and they will try to come and see me today at work or they will call me over the weekend, I mean its taking the piss a bit, they where told before the van had even started moving and had the reg plate within 2 minutes but nothing yet.

As for looking in all the right places been doing that, did it right after it had gone seen as the police did not seem to be doing much and have not seen anything.

I also checked the reg number of the van that took it on the internet, and it matches the right sort of van that took it, so I am just really hoping that they have been stupid enough to use there own van and not steal one, and with the type of people round here its more than possible for the to have used there own van!

wouldnt hold any luck on getting money anytime soon!

When My R6 was stolen it took over 9months for them to payout!

It as now been 18months since my accident and I am still waiting for a payout!

they are quick enough to take money, but not to give it back!

The police obviously deal with a lot of stolen vehicles so expect a little wait, they should have sent someone round at least.
Never get shitty with them though until they give you a real reason for it, you have rights mate and enough rights to have a stern word with them, I’m sure this affects their responses if you get shirty early on.
Also I found hyping up a story a little makes them move a bit faster, you could include they had a cosh, or another type of weapon, they were abusive or something.

When I found out the police weren’t really looking in the obvious places (they fucking know where the bike is trust me) I took a trip with my old man everyday after work with a steel bar in hand and a whole lot of hate.

I would have said they had a gun or summit so they moved there asses and got my bike back. It annoys me cause they dont really care they think oh well insurance will pay out!!

Like you got another load of money sat here waiting to buy a bike!! I would be fooked if it was me as I simply cant afford to buy another bike!

Cant believe they just dragged it across the car park. If i could have got in a car I would have rammed them with it until they crashed.

Damn robbers

Hope you get it back mate or insurance comes through Thumbs Up

Well, last november my kmx was lifted. No witnesses.

I reported it stolen straight away, got a case number thingy.
Rang insurance with the case number.
Filled out numberous forms for them.

Got a cheque within about 4-6 weeks of the crime as far as I can remember.

Maybe I was luck with the insurance...

Getting well sick of this, the police are doing nothing, I mean the bike has long gone now, and coming up to 24hrs later I still have not got a crime number, and they say the police will try to come and see me today at work so they can give me a crime number, or they will call over the weekend!

I mean it’s been nearly 24hrs and I feel like nothing has been done, I’m so pissed off!

And the time range for getting insurance ranges from 4 weeks to 9 months, great well there goes the rest of the nice weather!

Cheers for the information anyway, will post something back when I find more out from the police if they ever get round to coming to see me!

Hi,

Getting your bike stolen is the worst feeling... and also is the worst situation to be in for getting a new bike. At least with an accident you generally can either get your bike repaired quickly or get a loan bike, when it's stolen there's a load of hassle and insurance take ages to pay out!!

It took 3 months to get mine all sorted. The police do absolutely bugger all about it. All they do is if a bike is found they will see if it is yours but will make no effort to actually find yours.

Sad and miserable I know right at the start of summer also.

Hopefully it may turn up but I think with most bike thefts, once it's gone it's gone Crying or Very sad

Just concentrate on getting the insurance pay out and try not to think that the gits have also cost you your no claims bonus too. Bastards!

Motorcycle Direct!

But its not their fault! Couldn’t get any info from the police about accident for four months. then Its been solicitors and Med reports waiting on. and I have taken about 2months in that time to sort stuff!

My solicitor is ok, its the 3rd party denying it all at 1st that took the time!

Gutted for ya.

Get a cheap run around so you don't have to sit in the poxy cage all summer. Spend the next couple of weeks making sure it's going to be reliable and take the trip. It may not be an R6 but don't let the fuckers ruin your holiday too. Then when the money does finally come through you can sort yourself out a nice machine again.

Good luck
