Im off to France for ten days with the girlfriend. She has a CBR400 thats over 15 years old (E-reg i think). Shes looked into breakdown cover but cant find any that cover her as the bike is over 15 years old. Shes also rang her insurers to see if they will do it but thay said no for the same reason. Sad

Can anyone reccomend a company that will cover such an old bike?
Ta.

You tried the ones in the list here?

I don't have problems getting it for my 91' bike, but I do tend to go through insurance when I take it out as they don't add an old bike premium.

if you can't get cover-
give it a full servicing before you go, take the haynes manual with you, enough tools to tackle the most likely problems that could arise whilst travelling, spark plug, oil, cables n such.

International break down will only charge you extra for your main vehicle, even on a 'personal' policy - so get cover for a new vehicle and you're covered for any age of vehicle for others.

The AA's website seems to suggest that they won't cover older bikes, but have you tried ringing them? I got cover for my 17 year old bike, although it was a little pricey.

I have just bought european breakdown cover from the AA I just rang them up and told how the old the bike is. I had to go through a list of countries that I am going to, only to be told:

Me: oh yeah I going to Czech Republic

AA: Oooooh thats a class 2 country theres a surcharge on that.

Me: grumble grumble

and because they only cover bikes that are 15 years old or less and mine is 16 years old, I had to pay a surcharge on that as well.

The total cost came down to £92 while somewhere else I was quoted £140 so its not too bad.
