It's wednesday afternoon in central London, and I am just getting back to my bike in St. James's square bike rank, ready to commute home to Hastings.
I deactivate the alarm, turn the key, press the ignition and................. nothing. Try again, nothing again, again and again. I am not amused, what's going on. So I quickly call breakdown and I am promised they will be there within the hour, so I decide to go to the park and read the paper; no point getting annoyed over something I have no control over, speak to my OH, telling her that I will be very late home, if at all.
After about 40 minutes in the park, I decide to go back to the bike, and chill out "a la dispatch rider", with my head on the top-box and my feet on the bar. I do not know how they do it, but it is very unconfortable, so I decide to put my feet down and accidentally touch the gear pedal. I guess you already know what happened next.
I quickly realized that the bike next to mine was so close that its rider must have touched my gears, hence a dead starter; so I quickly try and knock it in neutral and start it up, and bingo.................
You only know something if you have been there before.

BTW: My OH thought it was so funny that she laughed for a solid 30 minutes when I told her.

That's happened to me! Embarassed I called out the RAC and he just put the bike in neutral and it started! It won't happen again!
