 |
|
We are not having much luck with bikes lately
Mine failed it's ruddy MOT and is gonna cost money we don't have, and OH called me earlier to say that HIS Firestorm has broken down and the AA can't get to him until ELEVEN pm!
Basically, he had a bug in his lid...stopped, bike still running, then the bike suddenly started making a "God Damned awful banging sound in the engine"... so he turned it off straight away
Any experts know if this sounds bad ?
The rate this is costing us we will have to both get pushbikes
Thanks in advance

It never rains but it pours
Bad luck with the stupid MOT failure, shame anout the engine noise, may be bad as the only noise an engine should make is the vroom vroooooooom. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

you have a bike , he has a bike? , er why not tow him back with your bike/car? ,
if you have rope hold onto it rather than strap it on something,
if you don't a security chain does nicely,
if you don't have either you can give him a sort of a push by riding and putting your hand on his back, or you right foot (since you don't need the back much) on the rear lights,
I towed a fireblade in the middle of Cornwall back to Truro this way , until I realised I had me security chain with me. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Thanks all
What a fuggin joke the AA are...
OH called them about 8.30 pm. About 11 pm a bloke called him back saying "I can't find you..where are you"?
"I am here at the Hollybush Pub, like I said"
"I am here too... Hollybush Pub, E17 ..."
"Erm, no.. LE17 ...!
So they have sent a bloke to London E17 for him.
OH said that when he called the AA initially someone on the other end looked up the postcode (which had been repeated a few times) and said he couldn't see where he was, but then eventually FOUND the pub he was at !
So looks like he won't be home until about 1am
Nice LITTLE spin on the bike that was for him

AA mechanics are mostly time served car mechanics and know next to nothing about bikes, they will therefore relay you home or to a place of your choice.
I however have stopped using them as they do not attend in the event of an accident, only breakdowns. I am now with greenline. ____________________ Something dark reddish with two wheels and cagiva written on the side

Jodie, I have breakdown cover inc with my insurance, it may be worth changing your insurance too to have this facility, as you have sadly found out you just never know when you might need it. Good luck with ya bikes ____________________ Live on the Isle of Wight and ride a CBR600F |

All the bloke did was load the bike into a van and bring it back
We were under the impression that all the money we pay to the AA was for them to *try* and fix the bike, if it can't be fixed THEN they would bring it back
Wrong ?
Confused
Jo x |
Jo, as someone who subcontracts for the AA, going from the description of the fault, we would`ve sent out a recovery vehicle straight away too.
Yes, we could send out a service van that may/may not fix it, however if it can't be repaired you then have to wait all over again for a recovery truck.
We look at each individual job as it comes in and designate a vehicle suited to it depending on what the fault description is and whether we're likely to fix it.
At midnight, you're not going to be able to source any parts, so that limits the possibilities of repair. And lets be honest, "banging from the engine" doesn't sound particuarly good!
Yes, there are problems with this. We're aware of that. However having to wait for an hour for a service van who turns up, can't fix it and then puts it back to the ops centre for recovery, which could take another 90 minutes, generally isn't apprciated by most people! |

That "noise" sounds VERY much like the age old storm problem - CCTs.
The CCT's can randomly go in the storm (cam chain tensioner) and its a right pain in the arse, it can bend valves, ruin shims and even screw the piston (if the valve bottom hits it).
I would advise he doesnt start or touch the bike till a Honda Mecanic can have a look at it, because if he runs it while the CCT's are buggered it could well make things worse!
Tell him to goto: www.vtr1000.org and click the forum link. Theres reams of info there about the CCT problems, what to look for and how to solve them!
Hope this is of some help!
(might also want to praise his choice of bike- i love storms) ____________________ Squiffy_The_Wombat
