It originated from internet shooter games such as CS:S.

When you constantly killed someone over and over again you would say: OWNED, later, while incorporation internet and msn typing methods, became: 0wn3d. It is believed that these forms of english were first used when texting on mobile phones was first used as a way of getting all what you wanted to say into 1 text and not paying the 10p for additional text pages. One of the 1st to be used was: 'LOL'.

The same applies to other words like:

pWn3d: To kill someone

0w3nd: To repeadly kill someone, meaning you owned them, they are your b1tch.

The owls were used due to the saying when someone got killed in a really cool way by some, ie pwn3d maginficently:

W00t!!

Hence, the owl!

So the owl was used. Then variations soon followed while still involving internet and msn short type like: 1337, evolved from L33T, which is from: LEET taken from elite, meaning to be elite, ie really good. The term was originally used bu hackers meaning someone who know there stuff.

Many other abbreviations are been used and many are still been 'invented' mainly as a form of short-type/code for internet users made by internet users.

More Examples:

plz: Please

lo: Hello

WTF: What the f*ck

No WAI: No way!

OMG: Oh my god. The F can be placed between the M and G

OIC: Oh, I see!

STFU: Shit the f*ck up

h4x0r5: Hackers

Others are forms in the same way. It basically boils down to a mixture of spelling words how they sound and substituting numbers for letters.

Like this sentence:

Person 1:Get the f*ck out of my channel...

Person 2: I w1ll h4xz0r joo. 14m3r !@#

Person 1: OMFG! What is happening to my computer?

Person 2: 0wn3d!

In correct type:

Person 1:Get the f*ck out of my channel...

Person 2: I will hack you, lamer!

Person 1: Oh my f*cking god! What is happening to my computer?

Person 2: 0wned!

1. In response to someone who has said/pointed out something very obvious

2. In response to someone who has insulted you or has aggressively disagreed with you

3. In response to a boring, nerdy comment you don't understand or care about (i.e. a peice of trivia)

4. In response to a comment that seems hard to believe or a lie

A: You're a fucking loser, A Cinderella Story was a shitty movie.

B: O rly.

nope they say it in cs&cs:s as well believe me, I dabble every now and again in a little online gaming.

I think cs pre-dates ebay.co.uk as well, Half life was released in 1996 I think.

oh well shows how much I know about games, was .co.uk released in 1995 or .com?

Turns out:

Founded in San Jose on September 4, 1995 by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar as Auctionweb[1], part of a larger personal site that included, among other things, Omidyar's own tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Ebola virus.

The first item ever sold on eBay was Omidyar's broken laser pointer for $13.83. Astonished, he contacted the winning bidder and asked if he understood that the laser pointer was broken. In his responding email, the buyer explained: "I'm a collector of broken laser pointers." The frequently repeated story that eBay was founded to help Omidyar's fiancée trade PEZ Candy dispensers was fabricated by a public relations manager in 1997 to interest the media. This was revealed in Adam Cohen's 2002 book[2] and confirmed by eBay.

Jeff Skoll was hired as the company's first president and full-time employee in 1996. The company officially changed its name to eBay in September 1997. Originally, the site belonged to Echo Bay Technology Group, Omidyar's consulting firm. Omidyar had tried to register the domain name EchoBay.com but found it already taken by the Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company, so he shortened it to his second choice, eBay.com.

So ebay didnt become ebay until 1997 really Razz
