I want a GATSO? UPDATED

I never thought I would say this but, I want my local council to put a GATSO outside my house.

I live in a small village that leads to the A19 and has several B roads and little twisties coming and going to it.

I live near the end of the village just before a roundabout were there is a long straight road about 500 long before a mini-roundabout then a bank going onto the B road.

This is a very built up area and every day I see cars doing speeds of about 60-70mph down this road aswell as 250cc+ crossers giving it stick up and down the road until about 3am and making a hell of a sound with there deaf cans on.

It is mainly cars that do this, like chavs in there half ar5ed pimped coarses.

I usually seen groups of sports bikes going past and they do 20-25mph which I am alwaysed pleased to see but the cars and just pure idiots.

I live on the end of a terrace and there is an alley way while people come out of the cross this road. I frequently see kids on mountain bikes and BMXs riding out of the alley and across the road all the time without looks and something is about to happen one day if the cars are speeding or not.

The people that determine that GATSOs are placed in areas were accidents happen quite a lot. But, if one isn't placed on this road and soon, it will become one.

Were I live it is also well known of scooter getting stolen and chavs riding them and crossers all the time with no protection what so ever.

Since I moved here just before Christmas just gone, I have seen 3 police cars the whole time and they were just passing through.

What should I do? Anyone have the same problem?

I am so for wanting a GATSO on this road I am even willing for them the erect the thing in my garden if neccessery.

I would actually do that but I have already emailed the council about the matter and I will continue to bug then until something is done.

Although it is a very good idea, I do not think I will do it now since I have already sent the email. But, if nothing is done, I will erect it at the end of my garden because it is only a pavement's width from the road.

Great ideas guys. I will post soon with what they say in response. The confirmation email I got when I wrote the email to them said that it would be officially replied to within 1 working day. I sent it approx 2pm today so they have no excuss.

if its national speed limit, you are stuffed, if its a 30 zone, you may have a chance of getting the council to help

i still like the diy approach but if someone panic braked and caused an accident, you could be held responsible

Only going to happen if there really is a danger from speeding. And local support often disappears when they do a speed trap and 90% of the people they catch were the ones asking for a gatso camera.

It's funny, last time someone posted up a picture of someone who'd made a fake GATSO outside their house, everyone went mental.

'Who gave them the right to do that?'

'Doddering old idiots who have nothing better to do.'

'Let's go and burn it down.'

The fact is cameras are put in high income/accident black spot areas, and they cost a lot, so they're quite exclusive. Everyone wants the road near their house to be safe.

As for the kids, maybe they'll actually look when they're mangled to a car. Until then, I couldn't give a crap. If they're not looking and get hit by a car, speeding or not, it was their fault.

I think his point is why should anything be done if the kids cannot be bothered to take any care avoiding being mangled.

The point isn't really emphasized on the kids. The point is about speeding.

I am always up for things being fair for all.

This is not my main point, but, people like myself and a few others get caught and fined for speeding while doing 6mph over the limit while other people are doing 70mph in a 30mph zone.

It is also mainly chavs in cars that do this and the more chavs off the roads the better. This will also have a domino affect that will benefit other road users.

Hi

There are about 150 kids a year killed as pedestrians. About 5% of accidents are caused by excessive speed over the speed limit. Fairly unlikely that any of those 8 deaths will occur on a particular street.

just get on with life dude. people speed, speed kills, you wont ever change it, speed camras help, but theres diddly squat chance of getting them ( the camera organsisation) to listen to you.
