Would fitting a K&N air filter make a bike sounder louder?

I need a way of making the bike sounder louder without replacing the exhaust.

i been reading about putting a K & N filter in my bike cos my friend has one and his bike sounds much meatier than mine, but it seems like you have to go to a lot of trouble putting new jets in the carburettor, and it sounds horribly hard/time consuming, so dunno if i will bother

Depends on the bike, the yamaha thunderace for example is silghty too rich in stock forum so you can fit a race can and K&N with out changing the mixture/jetting etc.

Find out on forums and websites from owners who have fitted them first though.

Just changing the filter to a K&N is unlikely to make any discernable difference to the bike at all, from a rider's perspective. The only benefit, without the full exhaust and fueling adjustments, is that the K&N doesn't need replacing, so should pay for itself over a (long) period of time.

Hi

Dumping the airbox and replacing it with single filters will make it a hell of a lot louder. Normal K&N replacement might make a touch louder but nothing you are likely to notice unless you modify the airbox.

All the best

Keith

i had a KnN air filter put on my FZR600 when it got the carbs set up (scorpion race can + dyno jet kit, plus new air filter) and you can notice the air induction more from pulling away in 3rd+ from about 30MPH.

I put a K&N in my xj600 ran rough and ended up causing it 3 times to stall and flood the carbs on a cold start, Sticking tp the basic set up filter. Now trouble free.
