As the name says, Ive got it very very mildly. It was slightly worse when I was around 12 years old (Im 17 now)

To be honest im not even sure if what I have would count as this, Simple things like; I would look at the beer mats on a table and I HAVE to straighten them up and make them perfectly straight and lined up with the edge of the table or whatever
I would sometimes lock the front door at nights then go for a wash or whatever in the bathroom then when I come back out I feel as if I really really want to pull the handle down to make sure its still locked and I could start to walk away and go back again and do the same thing

So anwyay, you get the idea about the type of things I cant stop myself doing

The most recent which is really annoying me (Not sure if this relates but im sure it does)
You know when you pull your front brake lever it makes a clicking noise (Thats when your brake light comes on) I cant stop clicking it, I really feel the urge to just click it every 20 seconds or so, People keep saying "I think your brake light is faulty" and Im like, yeah thanks

Has anyone got any experience with this type of thing and how the hell can I try to quit these things

Crying or Very sad

EDIT: Im afraid of it getting out of control, Just thought I'd add that Wink

Sounds the same, have a morning and evening routine that If I can't complete then I can't leave the house or go to sleep, both the routines are based around doing things 4 times etc, such as 4 sets of two dollops of water in the cup, then 4 sets of 1 dolop then check bathroom window is locked by pushing it 4 times. Mad tbh, lots of people seem to have it when they are younger so hoping I'll just grow out of it :S
Not as bad as some of the people that have it on TV, feel really sorry for them, like crying because of dirt etc, must suck Sad

Is it effecting your quality of life? If it is I would see a doctor , but don't worry about it, the more you think it about it the more you worry, it can be a vicious circle. I often double check things at work and locking the door before I go out. This quite normal. I don't have OCD but suffer from anxiety which I take mild anti-depressants for. Always ask for help sooner than later. I put it of for about 6 years

I've had it for Years, I have to put things down twice or touch things twice and I have to do things a certain way otherwise I'm Edgy for the rest of the day.....Doesn't really effect my Quality of life but it does give me the arse ache when I think about it.....

There's probably loads more that I do but those are the one's that I can think of at the moment.....

That's just the way I type tbh, when you finish a sentence you put a Full Stop whereas I put ..... To signify there's more to the conversation if needed.....If that makes sence.....

And if not that's my story and I'm sticking to it..... Wink

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Ork12, that is precisely the same odd obsession that I have had since about the age of 10(I'm 26)!!
These days I'm not as bad, it's only occasional but it used to be a pain.

For me it was always that I've seen the number 4 as perfectly symetrical, even and therefore complete.
But then if I accidentally did things 5 times I would have to do another 3 and then two more sets of 4 to make 4X4.

Madneess. It's crazy to find that there's someone else with the same oddity! Thumbs Up

On another subject I'm starting to get Twitches aswell now, I'm falling apart I think.....

Well I say now but I've actually had them for years also.....

Dunno if it could actually be considered as OCD, but I have a few compulsions too.

One of the main ones is making sure that doors are locked... The house doors when I go out, or the car doors after I've parked up... I'll check and re-check that they're locked, even if I can remember that I've just done it.

Another one is that I also find myself making sure all the cutlery is the "right way up" in the cutlery stand on the draining board. Regular knives forks and spoons have to have the handles pointing downwards, but the sharp paring and serrated knives have to have the handles pointing upwards. It even gets to the point that I'll rearrange them into the right way round, even if I'm about to put them away in the kitchen drawer.

I hadn't really thought about it too much before, but putting all this down in black and white actually makes me begin to wonder if I'm a bit stranger than I thought?? Rolling Eyes

The door that leads to the flats where i live automatically closes, but for some reason i always stand there until i see it shut, even tho i can here it shut when i'm walking up the stairs.

Like Ork12 i also don't like the odd numbers.

Alot more people do it then you think. If i don't do some of the stuff then it will irriate me until i do it.

Waow, a lot more people with this too then, Ive found if something takes my mind off it I wont do anything, Alcochol makes it completly stop. I do everything everyone has said here, its just hard to think of it all at once. Sometimes I can get really frustrated with things, I remember when I was around 13 if I was walking and turned left, I had to turn my body round to the right to even it out. Ive also found the more embarrassing ones (Not naming them Razz) I feel more urge to do them when people are watching or would see me do it

i see this sort of thing as heightened attention to detail which will probably help you in life.

You will have everything in order and under control and so you will get things done.

I tend to think the more haphazard carefree approach to life means people mess up.

(Sorry, I know I'm being a bit flippant, but one on the things that sometimes gets to me is that my OH can be so untidy....or is my concern just another sign of OCD??)

I have got a real beauty of an obsession, i cannot eat or drink from any crockery that i havent seen rinsed under tap just prior to me using it.

I tell people it stems from not wanting it to taste of washing up liquid but im pretty sure i just made that up.

Its well bad, i will do the washing up, rinse a glass, put it on the side. Then 10 mins later if i wanted to drink from it i have to fill it up about3 times and tip it out before using it.

If my girlfriend makes me a cup of tea while im in a different room i will ask her if shes rinsed the cup, i know sometimes she will lie as she couldnt be arsed or forgot so i cant drink it and i tip it away and make another.

If im offered a cup of tea round a friend i will drink it but wont enjoy it, i will spend the whole time thinking, has this been rinsed well.

Very odd and irritating!

Wow so many fucked up people on this forum.

At my birthday party on monday my cousin couldnt eat any food that was "touching" so if she had say bangers and mash if the food touched she would not eat it.

Everyone was digging into steak etc and she was eating soup so the food would not touch.

Being the caring kind of guy I am I was just thinking she should grow the hell up and stop being so pathetic.

I really cannot understand it at all.

However I do like clicking brake lever sounds...never get me in a bike showroom. Embarassed

I have the numbers thing. Can not play football in any number other than an even number. If someone changes a volume on radio or TV then I will double check its on an even number.

I will leave whatever on the odd number and think 'Just leave it Sam, itll be ok, nothing will happen' but then after a few secs of attempted ignorance I juust have to change it!

Same with buying drinks in shops. Always buy two and dont realise til afterwards what I have done!

Symmetrical things are another one, I like to make things symmetrical, or organised and lined up. So that straight lines are parrallel or something close. Or even down to making sure that the drinks are symetrical, and if I dont like that then i have to make sure I drink the odd one aswell to make it all even.

I used to have to check the doors were locked 4 times, and now cant have my hair cut to anything but a 2 or a 4.

I dread to think how I would be in a car with someone who has odd numbered OCD. Could just imagine them turning the volume down and me changing it again, cue them changing it. What a fiasco that would be!

So true. You can't ignore it because it becomes even more irritating. I've been in a car where i'll have to touch somthing like the stereo a few times, even if they get annoyed, i'll have to do it.

When i'm annoyed & i feel i have to do somthing like 'straigten up somthing' i won't i just think f**k it. But i eventually will. Smile

I got the same with door handles. To me it works like this

I can lock a door and check it and then drive off.

I can get an indeterminate distance away (sometimes 15-20 miles!), and I think " have i locked it?" and have to go back to check. Its like when youve looked at a watch to see the time, and someone asks you what time it is, and you look again.

IT can proper wind me up at times - although Im not as bad as I could be.
