Had to give the daughter a good talking to last night about her inappropriate use of language.

She was helping to fill the car washer and she asked me to 'pop the hood' Shocked

Damn Americanisms....told her in no uncertain terms it's a bonnet, you open it, and if she's not careful they'd be no chocolate for her until England win the football world cup Wink Very Happy

Just thought I'd share.
Any other sayings from the Merrycans that get to you Confused

It's the sitcoms, I tell thee! I am guilty of saying somebody's 'pissed' instead of 'pissed off'. Whenever I say it, people think the person being referred to is drunk. Brick Wall I have Scrubs to blame for that particular one.

If Britain could actually make a half-decent sitcom besides Fawlty Towers, we wouldn't have a problem. But we can't, so we do. Laughing

That isn't American influence any more, it's the Creole/Patois London influence. There are areas of London now which speak with a massive amount of Jamaican dialect and accent. It's what we get for having a multi-cultural society.

*Rubbish - GARBAGE
*Crisps - CHIPS
*Chips - FRIES (yeah..well, ok..I will give her that one, there are McCains Fries

I'd say a verminious society, rather than multicultural.

Anyone, regardless of nationality, who speaks in patois or 'street' is instantly labelled a (probably criminal) moron by my subconscious.

It's the language and culture of criminals - so if you identify yourself with it, you are a twat in my book.

I have a 6 year old who watches a lot of american cartoons.

I don't.

So if he speaks to me in 'Americana', I honestly don't understand and he has to speak English to get his point across.

Honest Twisted Evil

Cheers,

Byrnie.

I think they only speak it because it makes them feel hard.

Let them speak it all they want, eventually they will realise it is the reason they can't get a job because they sound like tw4ts with drug habits and can't even speak their own language correctly.

I noticed an americanisation very early yesterday morning when I was watching the rolling telly text on BBC 2. It was going on about the possibility of stoping disability benefits for certain people and it refered to it as WELFARE.

What next? Food stamps? F*cking dumb Americans, well, to be fair, their 'God told me to do it' related murders has decreased slightly in the past 5 or so years. Confused

It is even better if you put on a fake "posh english" accent Thumbs Up

My girlfriend suffers from this disease. She has undoubtedly picked it up from too much contact with celebrity magazines, american sit coms.

Recently she pronounced the word 'Jaguar' (the car) as 'Jagwwarr'. I swear to god I nearly hit her. There are some things you just don't say.

My biggest cringe moment is when yanks say Ibiza with emphasis on the "zeee" or make it sound like pizza., do they think it's spelt Eyebizza. What's wrong with pronouncing it correctly - as in Ibitha with the "I" being pronounced as "I" for "IN". Hope that makes sense Mr. Green
