The small furry 4-legged ones, you dirty dirty people!

https://uncommonmisconception.typepad.com/home/cat.jpg

So, the neighbours have a couple of cats. One is big, hairy and massively lazy. This one doesn't annoy us at all.
The other is a ginger cat, and is constantly coming into our garden, trying (and sometimes succeeding) to catch the fish in our pond.
Today I find out it has pissed in the tent which was airing in the garden. Evil or Very Mad

Other than killing it to death in the face, twice, what can I do to deter the little critter? Getting myself a cat/dog isn't a solution. Something else?

Probably an old wives tale, but I've heard that putting bottles of water around your garden stops them coming in.

Just googled this and it seems there are a few bits and bobs.

I've heard of manure called "lions roar" which is as the name suggests lions manure and makes cats think you've got a bigger cat so don't come in the garden.

Fight back! If you don't want to get a cat then you're gonna have to do the dirty work yourself. Climb the fence and go nick the neighbours fish, piss up their wall and crap on the grass. They'll get the idea.

I don't mind cats, but I don't like the way people just let them roam free.

A more reasonable idea might be one of those cat scarer thingies, makes a noise every time one comes near. A bottle of water left out in the garden is supposed to scare them too.

Rick.

When we moved in our neighbour asked us if we minded cats, we said no, "good because the guy who lived in yours before used to feed our cats". Yeah great!!!, these cats just come in our house, if the door or window is open they are in walking all over our worktops, cream carpets. they mess in our garden, leave us dead animals all over!!!. WHy do people want these things as pets??.

Anyhow I've found a solution now, the plan is im borrowing one of my parents dogs, he's a rather large dog and with luck once the cats seen him afew time it wont risk coming in our garden again, should do a good job of scaring them of.

If that doesn't work then Im open to ideas, been told through water on them. People might think its cruel, but to me they are vermin, coiming into our house, if we leave anything around they are their eating it!!. can you imagine what its like in this hot weather your in the kitchen sorting out your dinner, phone rings, you answer it in next room, 1-2min later you walk back in to find the little b*stard tucking in!!!, why because you had a window open!!, in this weather who does that. Suck ass cats!!!.

Just remembered there's a guy in Buntingford that skins cats that come in his garden! Or so they say. Sure that'd put other cats off seeing all the other ones hung up.

Spray 'em with a hose whenever you see them. Cats can't stand being wet, it's the easiest way to toilet train a kitten.

Another way is to buy a thing which omits a certain frequency which cats don't like. I don't know how effective these are, plus they cost a lot more than the hose method. Razz

Can you get the equivalent of rubber bullets for air rifles?

If I could shoot them a few times without seriously hurting them, then it might deter them a bit. Would also be massively enjoyable. Twisted Evil

You can buy cat repellent, its like pepper or something. Orange peel seems to work also. Kicking them off your doorstep is very effective Wink

Cat have a thing against citrus stuff, lemon juice worked when we had a problem with one pissing by our front door. Tin foils in places also tends to freak them out, especially if they have to tread on it.

Apart from some of the above suggestions you could also get yourself a cat. The ginger one obviously thinks your garden is part of it's territory. If you get a cat then it will own the territory.

Use an airsoft gun/bb gun not an expensive one or a powerful one just one thats strong enough to sting, it wont come back Thumbs Up

Im talking like one of the cheap ones from the market shoots at like 100fps Wink

And make sure its with the lightwieght plastic bb's Mr. Green

Could always use a que-tip or a bit of blue-tac in the air rifle if its a break barrel (my break barrel was cheap so I used that on cats)

I don't agree with shooting them at all. You can cause the cat serious injuries, even if your meaning to hurt it. It will also be seen as animal crultey in the eyes of the law. Something like a hose will probably do a better job and won't hurt the cat.

I know if anyone shot my cat I'd make sure it was reported and I'm 100% sure I'd press charges.

Im with the BB Gun idea mate Thumbs Up

Pick up a cheap gun for £2.50 from the market and blag yourself a tub of free pellets with it and your set.

Just spend keep an eye out for the cat when your about and pop it a couple of times until it gets the message. It wont hurt unless your at point blank range.

Also as far as your fish go - why dont you get a net for the top? Cats find it stupidly hard to get their paws through them, and if they do they struggle to get them back out again - so they soon learn not to do it in the future Thumbs Up

I think I would deserve a medal for hurting a cat with a £2.50 bb gun that has less power than an old mans wet fart Laughing

All it would take is a shot to hit it's eye.

I wouldn't care if it hurt my cat or not, our cat is like a child to us, someone starts shooting at it, let's just say I'd be very unhappy.

I wouldnt even shoot at it personally.

Cats are such jumpy creatures, firing it at the fence would create enough noise for the animal to get scared and start thinking its not a safe place to be Thumbs Up
