Having decided to do my DAS, I am now looking at where to do it!,

I Live in Nuneaton (8 miles from Coventy), so I'm looking for recomendations in or around: Nuneaton/Cov/Hinckley etc & the surrounding areas.

I have been looking on the net & yellow pages etc, & also considering the place where I did my CBT (NSM Nuneaton).

But I thought I'd ask on here to see if I could get any recomendations!

I am willing to pay more/travel for a good centre - with good instructors to cater for a novice, assess & advise if I need any extra tuition/lessons etc.

Cheers in advance

Hiya, 30SomethingLearner, I'm also from Nuneaton and reckon I know the perfect place for you to do your DAS.

I wouldn't reccommend the NSM. I did my CBT with them and they were shocking. Also tried to con me out of £50 but that's irrelevant.

I'd strongly advise you to contact Dave Brown on 02476744689.

Are you familiar with that scooter/jet ski shop on Heath End Road?

If you are, he's behind there in a little hut thing. Try and catch him about 4:30/5 when he comes back from training people and he'll tell you everything.

An incredible amount of people have had nowt but good experiences with him.

Oh and Simple off here did her test with him aswell. Thumbs Up

I'm just trying to remember how much I paid for lessons, though I was doing the A2 thingy or whatever it's called but it should give you an idea.

Cheers MementoMori,

Funny enough I have had a few people recomending David Brown!, my mate went with him (& passed!), & now a recomendation on here, so I think that's enough for me to pay him a visit.

I know where you mean, he's just by the Harun' Hounds up heath end Road, by George Bell Marine?

I'll pop in Friday afternoon at the time you suggested Wink

Yeh, that's the one.

If I remember correctly, my lessons were about £50 for a day; about 8 hours riding, and the test was about £60/£70. Sorry, my memory's on strike after all the exams I've just had to do.

Go for it, you won't regret it! Thumbs Up

I just hope he's there on Friday so you're not waiting around uneventfully but chances are he will.

Good luck!

Just a few questions MementoMori,

How did your learning progress with him?, how many lessons did you have? - does he conduct his training on an indivudual basis i.e. lessons until he is satisfied that you are ready for your test, or was it a DAS 'course' as such? i.e. set amount of days + test for one fee?, or does he offer both/combination of both.

Sorry for all the questions! - just one more - does he include hire of a 500cc for the lessons/test, or do you have to provide your own bike?

Finally, 'roughly' how much did it cost you from start to finish with him? (although I fully understand that is going to be different for everybody, by their skill & competency levels).

Cheers

OK, I'll go through what I did and stick the price on the end of each thing although they'll be approximate cos I can't remember specifically:

Arrow Evaluation ride with my own bike (50cc) for half a day: £40

Arrow Two lessons, lasting around 8 hours a day at around £50 each. (saturday/sunday)

Arrow Test bike hire (on a 125) : £30

Arrow Test: Around £90 including the use of bike. (following thursday)

TOTAL: £260

----------------------

This next bit shouldn't worry you...

Arrow Re-test lesson Embarassed :£30/40

Arrow Test: £90.

TOTAL: £120/£130.

I took my test towards the end of November and was the only person not to pass first time for that entire year. Although I still strongly contend that I was good enough to pass and the examiner didn't give me the 3 chances at a minor before turning it into a major. Grrrr.

He takes a picture of everyone who passes so there'll be loads of pictures with gold stars on them for 1st time pass, and then me with a humble silver star on it amongst all the 1st timers. K now I'm waffling. What I'm trying to say is that he has an excellent first time pass rate.

He took me out on an individual basis, however it's a bit of a gamble as to whether you'll be out on your own especially this time of year. I've seen him out and about with both one and two people.

With me, he took me out initially for a test ride and based the amount of lessons I needed on that. He also let me train with the others on the final pre-test lessons as my exam was the last of that day.

So he will do a combination of both based on his opinion of when both you and he think you're ready though his courses are all quite intensive.

He's quite flexible really, he doesn't stick fervently to a rigid structure as to what you can and can't do.

He does include hire of 500s yeah, he has a couple of CB500s which are in decent nick.

Well, I think that answers everything, sorry I couldn't be much more help though if you have any other questions I'll try and answer as best as possible.

Thumbs Up

I'll pay him a visit tomorrow afternoon
