Hi guys (and girls)

I currently wear textiles (well a frank thomas jacket and jeans Rolling Eyes ) but my jacket is fairly uncomfortable.

I have a set of leathers (well did) for going pillion on my old mans bike but i have grown out of them.

So here is my question, i am looking at a leather jacket, not to expensive. My limit is about £150 (not very much i know but i can't really afford much more and i aint doing super sonic speeds like some of you guys)

Also, are leather trousers essential, or will jeans be ok? If they are a must have, do you have any recommendations?

I have been having a quick browse and buying a matching pair of leathers (ie a 2 piece) seem A LOT more expensive than buying a jacket and jacket separate (i know they won't match)

So, what are you opinions?

Thanks in advance
Matt Smile

Why not get a set of 2nd hand leathers off ebay. I didn't like the idea of wearing someone elses sweated in stuff but there sre some good deals to be had. Many have only been worn a couple of times so are pretty much as new.

£150 would get you a set that origionally cost around £3-400.

hi matt

I wear 1 piece leathers, but my next set will be 2 piece leathers (for practical reasons). I personally wouldn't wear jeans as i kinda like my legs the way they are, although i know a lot of people that do wear jeans and a leather jacket. If you like wearing jeans then you can now buy some biking reinforced jeans for when you can't be bothered with full gear. Here is the link https://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-jeans/joe-rocket-steel-sliders-jeans.htm

HTH

EDIT: My friend just bought brand new jacket £45 from ebay and it isn't half bad, try there

Thanks guys Smile

I'll take a look on ebay at leathers.

Andrea, if i'm going to get some motorcycle dedicated trousers then i think i'll go for some leathers but them jeans don't look bad.

wouldnt suggest getting leathers off of Ebay, i did that a few times and ended up with leathers that was either too small or too big and diddnt fit. the amount of money i had spent on ebay i could of bought a pair from a shop or online and had the choice to send them back for a different size which i ended up doing anyway, so it sorta cost me that bit extra off of ebay. if your looking to buy a fairly cheap set of leathers i would suggest looking here https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/
was very helpful accomadating of my needs...

hope my 2 pence worth helps out Wink

Bloody hell slimjim, thanks a lot!

That site is dirt cheap (130 for a 2 piece Shocked )

As i said, i won't be going crazy speeds so a £600 alpine or dainese or what ever won't be nessecary.

Thanks

Have you looked at RST?

I have always had their stuff and never had a problem with it. May not quite be up there with Alpine*'s ad Dianese but it's not bad for the price.

I currently have this, its a leather/textile mix, which means it's not so bad in the summer for heat and in the wet it offers a bit more water protection.

Not bad for £100. Bottoms are similar but just black.

what slimjim04 didnt do was go into a bike shop first and find out what size leathers fit him

i think you find i did colin, but the trouble with different brands of leathers is that they dont all come up as the same size and fit. i had tried on several sets of leathers from 2 different shops, some fitted nicely in lengh etc but was either a bit tight or a bit baggy. so even thou i knew what size fitted me best, it is just trial and error to find the right pair and brand that fitted just right. so hence me saying Wouldnt buy from ebay again Cool

the trick is to try on ones of the brand you are buying off ebay, not ones of a different brand

only buy on ebay if you go and try on the gear at a local shop, and know the size and design fits you.
