Just dropped my bike, i was holding it up whilst standing next to it whilst i moved it which was no problom then i leaned over to flick the side stand up as it was scraping along the floor, i then went to put my bike down forgetting that the stand was up &......

No crash bungs would of saved it as my indicators are a mile long & it must of pushed it inside the fairing. I was pleased that the damage is small, seems that my engine cover saved my rear aswell.

Is this fixable as i rekon in a matter of time the cracks will get bigger from riding. I did manage to pick her up straight away as i was so pissed off. EmbarassedEmbarassed

Cheers, luckily R6 parts are quite easy to find, just having a look on ebay, i usually see mid panels for around £40 which isn't bad, but if i can sort it out another way then i will, thinking of some panel glue of soemthing..

Aye, that really sucks. Used to get a lot of bikes into the garage with damage like that, and most of them rode off with new fairings. Repairing them can look tacky, and can spoil a really nice bike.
Saying that, I have seen repair jobs that have come out really well, you'll just have to decide what you want, style or money?

It's not as bad as it looks but i wouldn't mind just making sure it doesn't crack anymore or flaking off, is there stuff you can buy?

With damage like that I think your best bet if you go down the repair road, is to try applying fibre glassing the broken fairing from the inside, and touch it up from the outside, will definately hold, and if there are no bits missing, can end up looking OK.

Do i do it myself or take it to a shop to do that? If so what's the stuff called. If not i might just leave it until a panel comes along.

not sure what the brand name would be, but go to your local DIY store. Your looking for the hard sheets of fiberglass (bout 2mm) and a kinda glue treatment. When you apply the glue to the fibre glass, it goes soft, then shape it round the break, and when it sets, it SETS. You could do it yourself if you have your wits with you for this kind of thing, or get a mate to help, not really any need to get professional help, especially if you're gonna replace the fairing eventually anyway.

I did a similar thing... forgot stand was up and had to lower bike slowly to floor,

get new indicators.. get GPZ500s ones.. they bend! so they flick up completely saving your fairing Thumbs Up

wish I'd had similar ones on the NSR and RX50 I was forever buying new lenses and my panels were abused...

Shit luck that is mate, hope you get it sorted. I know how much it pisses you off when that happens, I dropped my hornet back in April due to bad unexpected camber of the road at a junction, it was done like in slow motion and really hacked me off, how stupid I felt. Luckily all I needed was a new footpeg and indicator, no other damage thank god.

Bent gear selector or something like that? Some early R6's had a problem with 2nd gear, don't know if thats related.

Repairing that fairing is easy:

Get a soldering iron and drag it across the back of the cracks, this will melt the plastic back together. Then cover the join by melting a plastic coat hanger over the top much the same way you would use solder.

Then goto a model shop or halfords and buy some filler, fill it, sand it with wet and dry, then fill again and sand it. Once the area is smooth as a babies bum then prime it with any good primer (as its red white primer would work well in my opinion.)

Then pop to halfords and get them to colour match some paint for you in a spray can, this cost £9.99. Then give it a coat, then sand with wet and dry, then another coat, sand and a final coat. rub this down and it should be perfect. If the paint doesnt appear as glossy as the other parts of the fairing simply spray with a nice high gloss clear laquar.

Hope this helps somewhat, if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Toby
