Morning all,

I'm booked in for my 2nd track day ever at Snetterton on 20/07. I was wondering whether anybody has any advice as to hanging off the bike? I appear to argue with myself when counter steering - e.g. I try and releax my opposite hand on the bar but when leaning quite far over I tend to tense up a bit... Is there a particular way to do this successfuly - i.e. body position etc... It's almost like I try and pull myself back on the bike causing me to counter steer the other way !

Also was wondering whether to replace my rear before the day but it still has some tread...

Rob.

Grab one of the instructors for a bit of advice. He'll follow you round and will be able to give accurate evaluations on your positioning. Thumbs Up

I generally find hanging off on the track very helpfull. It helps me put pressure on the inside footpeg, countersteer and my knee's touch down easier which helps me judge how far I'm actually leaning as it generally hits the deck at the same point of lean every time.

Just ease yourself in gradually. Take the first few sessions to calm yourself and get to know the track.

Id say set yourself up way before the corner. Hang off the bike before you even start to brake then just use the bars to lever the bike onto its side. Use the bars to steer not your body weight and hang off to carry that bit more corner speed. Always look way ahead and into the corners. Dont look at whats just infront of you! Try maintaining an agressive posture. Get your chin on the tank down the straights and coming out of corners and keep your head low going around bends.

If they put cones in for turning in points and apexes then use them. When I did a trackday at Snett I kept knocking a few of the apex ones over with my shoulder lol, much to the displeasure of the marshalls, but it gives something for you to aim for.

Use the braking markers. Normally every 100 yards or whatever as they should help you ride more consistent. You should find yourself getting in a rythem and you will get a feel of when to turn in and when to brake just by that.

Above all be smooth, dont rag the thing about and dont ride outside your own limits. I race and the thing I consentrate most on is riding smooth, consistent and always within my own capabilities. It doesn't make me any slower, I won the ACU Star 125GP race at Snetterton yesterday by 6.5 seconds, putting in a 1:18.7 lap time.
