I am 18 stone at the moment Embarassed but I have always been big. The lightest I have been was about 14stone but never had a gut but I got one now so Mad but I got broad shoulders etc

I have been going to the gym 7 days a week one week then the next week 5 days a week and spend the weekend doing various stuff. I lost 8kg but that was while using weights so I cut them out about 6 weeks ago.

Over the last 4 weeks I have been working my ass off every day of the week for 2 hours all cardio crap and stuff like that. I mix it up with swiming etc. Also I stick to a 1000cal diet (keeping it all in a book for the past 6 weeks) and I have lost ..... 1 ounce Laughing over 4 weeks thats pathetic !?!?

I honestly dont get it I want to give up Embarassed

when you first start weight comes off quickly , but then tapers off as your body becomes used to the exercise and has to lug around less weight,

that and 1000 cals makes your body think fuck me , wheres me next meal coming from (ie like humans 400,000 years ago) , best make the best of that last one and store it up and go into starvation mode,.

that said keep it up

The trainers at the gym were shocked Laughing

I have alot of the equipment on high high settings too.

4 weeks and 1 f*cking ounce thats unbelivable how the hell does that work out ?

Plus the 9 weeks of working out before that so in total I have lost 8kg not very fast ay on a 1000 cal diet with exercise every day it just seems wrong ?

At this rate I will still be huge in 2 years Laughing

Oh and I dont eat any thing like bread pasta rice etc.

Even cut out red meat for the last 2 weeks Neutral

are you burning fat or starving yourself so that you are losing muscle/water? , try out one of those electric scales where you stand on two metal pads and determines your fat content.

Indeed. 60lbs in 12 weeks so far. I've fallen behind my intended target last week by 2 lbs, but I hadn't been drinking the 4 litres of water a day that I should have, so I'm a tad constipated at the mo.

525 calories a day, in the form of 2 soups, 1 shake and a bar. That's it - no other food at all.

Check your pm I should be able to help you out mate.

EDIT: I guess this can help other people, this is my method... might not work for everyone:

Sickpup made a valid point, how tall are you then you can work out your BMI on the index and set yourself a set of way points for projected weight loss.

If you want I can make you up a routine to use while at the gym specifically for toning and weight loss?

Do not do specifically cardio or specifically weights, you need a balance on what feels comfortable for you. If I make you a gym routine stick to it ok, don't think i'll just have a day off because I cba and i'll make it up in a week or two... it just doesnt work ok you have to be very self disciplined when loosing weight rather than toning.

Also don't restrict yourself to a certain amount of calories a day, diets are bullshit they end up literally depressing you! Eat sensibly, an even balance of carbs and protein, introduce more anti oxidants into your diet like tomatos, you don't have to eat them whole, you can get really tasty pasta pestos etc.

You digestive process actually uses a huge amount of energy, so give it a work out, get yourself eating more salads/fruit/fibre which will also help your bowls out no end. Try adding basalmic (i can't spell it) vinegar and olive oil to rocket and baby spinach tis feckin lovely

For deserts just think about what your eating, fruit sundays are ace. Proper dark coca based chocolate is actually good for you, so buy a bar of that rather than cadburys milk choc shight, if you must just get the fruit and nut or something like a snickers. Every little helps and if you are consciously thinking about it then you are on the right path.

Don't eat stuff you don't like the taste of seriously, don't punish yourself because it will give you completely the wrong mind set! And end up fucking up your insides getting constipated and an irritable bowl. Loosing to much weight to quickly will leave you with a gaunt appearance, if you do it my way you should have better skin, muscular tone and stamina... but it is also the slow way.

I've got loads of advice but if i blurt it all out it will be like pissing up against a wall, so if you have any specific questions just chuck them my way and i'll help as much as I can.

Also you are looking at long term not short term to loose this weight, we are talking a year from now you will be healthy and fit I predict. But I am willing to bet you will also keep the weight off, rather than a 6month starvation period.

In return your gonna give me riding lessons when I pass in sept lol!

That BMI calculator sucks ass. It is all knacked up, very over estimated, does not consider that muscle is a lot heavier than fat or is done in a way to make people want to lose weight more than they need to.

The 1st picture is my stats put in and the picture it shows.

The 2nd picture is what I actually look like in terms of somatotype.

The question is though: Even though I do not look obese, would I still have to lose weight to be 'healthy' even though I am quite fit and only weight a lot because it is mainly muscle?

With no disrespect meant to anyone, I think you're all approaching this problem from the wrong angle.

Anyone who is overweight and a serial or yoyo dieter knows what they have to do to lose weight. We know we need to eat the right foods in sensible portions to keep our calories under control. We know we need to excercise more. You learn that the first time you try (successfully or otherwise) to diet. You try every new fad diet going in the hope that this time the revolution will happen and you will lose the weight and keep it off. Most of them work very well - at first. Then gradually you stop trying so hard, slip back into your old habits (or find new, worse ones) and hey presto, the weight goes back on again, usually with a bit more for good measure.

SO I guess what I am saying is that I am in no position to advise here because as yet I haven't managed to lose a substantial amount of weight and keep it off. However, as someone who has a lot of years diet experience, I'm going to anyway! I would recommend the following:

1 - Look at your motivation for dieting. It'll never work unless you really want it to, and you really can't do it for anyone except yourself.

2 - Use the scales as a guide but don't get obsessed by them. As has already been said, muscle is denser than fat so you can convert from fat to muscle without actually showing any difference on the scales. Use other methods to check how you're doing - measure yourself occasionally, get an item of clothing and go by how it fits you etc etc.

3 - Realise that when you begin to lose weight, however you are doing it, you are actually looking at completely changing your lifestyle and habits. It's a big step.

4 - Be prepared for it to take a long time. Unless you resort to surgery there is no quick-fix to losing weight. If it comes off slowly it is more likely to stay off, or at least take longer to go back on. 1-2 lbs per week is enough to aim for for most people unless you have medical reasons to lose faster in which case you should be medically supervised.

5 - Keep records of what you have eaten and when. Look at what triggers you to eat the "right" and "wrong" foods and focus on those.

6 - Plan ahead. Whether you are following a diet plan or doing it yourself, sit down each day and work out what you will be eating tomorrow. Prepare it. Stick to it!

7 - Talk to others who are in the same position as you. This is one of the reasons why organisations such as Weightwatchers, Slimming World etc where you go to meetings are so succesful. You get to talk to people who know exactly how you are feeling. You get to see others succeed (or fail) and can swap tips and warnings with them. Don't rule this option out!

8 - Through all of this never forget that being fat doesn't make you any less of a worthy person. You are still YOU, no matter what the outside appearance is. Learn to like YOU and to accept your shortcomings and your good points.

Keep us posted on how you get on. Share what is working and what isn't, we really want to know, and to help.

This my opinion:

BOLLOCKS TO DIETS YOU DON'T NEED THEM. IF YOU excercise ENOUGH YOU WILL LOSE ENOUGH WEIGHT. I'VE PROVED THAT IN THE PAST. I USED TO BE 16 STONE THEN WENT DOWN TO 12 IN JUST 12 WEEKS!!! AND I WAS STILL EATING KEBABS, CHIPS AND ALL THE OTHER SHIT.

IM NOT JOKING!!!

I'm willing to help a few people inc McGee (cant help loads since i'm only one person with two jobs), can't really help ladies since i'm not versed in the best techniques sorry. I'll need your weight & height to work out a target weight based loosely on the BMI index.

If you want me to come up with a gym work out for you i'll need you to tell me how much you can lift in:

Simple hammer bicep curl
Triceps press
Bench press
Leg/Calf press
How long/how far on a cycle machine + what setting
How long/how far on a running machine + what setting
How long/how far on a rowing machine + what setting
How many sit ups you are capable of
How many push ups you are capable of

Don't go and find out your maximum on everything or you will strain allot of muscles Just give me a rough estimate so I can gauge your strength and fitness, be honest with me and yourself otherwise i'll give you a work out that could end up getting you hurt. And if possible buy yourself a small book on stretching so you can work out the right stretching technique for your work out.

Buy yourself some simple stuff like multi vitamin tablets, cod liver&prim rose oil and something like garlic (which helps healing) and zinc (which promotes muscle growth) tablets.

Avoid muscle supplements unless you speak to a shop owner personally detailed what you need them for which is: Muscle fibre growth and recovery.

Don't go jogging btw, unless its at a club with an all weather astro turf or on a running machine because it will damage your ankles (most decent running machines have some sort of suspension), feel free to use a push bike though, I go on a bike ride pretty much every other day with my mate Ian + the wind keeps the sweat off you unlike in a gym.

Pm me if you want some advice or a gym workout, i'll keep your names private if you wish.

I can't believe your gym trainers! Shocked Any trainer worth anything knows that to loose weight you use smaller weights but more reps!
You also can't do the same amount of reps day after day and expect to loose weight. You have to build up the reps as you become more fit.

To build muscle & weight you use bigger weights and less reps!

You are probably loosing fat content but putting on muscle.
Instead of weighing yourself, take measurements of your waist, thighs etc.

Cut out anything white eg: bread, pasta, sugar, rice, milk etc and include lots of green foods in your diet. Also walk as much as possible.

Good luck! Thumbs Up

I agreee with IronMaiden.
Your initial weight loss was ok, but then it always is and that's what demoralises people when they can't maintain that rate of reduction.

With your excessive gym workouts I suspect you're actually building muscle mass. Muscle weighs more than fat, therefore the harder you work the less weight you appear to loose.

Sorry if that simple fact has been pointed out in other posts, I only skimmed to get to the bottom.

Would suggest workout at gym every other day. As said, low weight, high reps. Plus cardio work where your heartrate is kept at the optimum for buring fat. Again, any good trainer will know these figres, or where to find them (try google it yourself). If they don't, find one that does. The workout pulls the muscles apart, the rest day allows them to repair. When they repair they're stronger than before. Constant training is not the way to go.

I wouldn't say cut pasta (and other carbs out) completly. Best to have them 3-4 hours before your workout where they'll do some good. Don't, as I had a habit of doing, have them after the workout as then they don't get burnt off!

Remember, a little bit of everything in moderation is usually ok and stops a diet being boring. Don't go and binge or supersize.

HTH Thumbs Up

It seems relatively simple. You training your arse off and developing lean muscle. Your will not be noticing weight loss because your muscle weight is increasing whilst you loose fat, so in effect in a realistic sense you are not loosing weight, however your moving weight from fat to muscle, which is a good thing.

Ditch the scales and start taking body measurements instead. You'll probably notice you are losing inches, if not pounds Thumbs Up
