Looks like I'm going to be transferred to Portsmouth, Hampshire for the next 2 years (not certain yet - but likely).

Anyone tell me if there are any good local places around to GMKD?

Cheers

Yes, any resonable constant radius curve. Wink

Well, Portsdown hill is a good place to start, Around Fort Widley and the likes off.
But, some bends are pretty tight, so if your looking for a challenge go there Thumbs Up
Nothing in town tho. and I wouldnt with this 20mph crap going on at the moment.

Has the South really become so congested, speed camera monitored, 50 and 20mph zoned that people have to ask if anyone knows where a good bend is Shocked Question Shocked

Yep. I went to Wales and around the Brecon beacons last weekend and fuck me if it isn't like a different world for riding. Don't mean to put a downer on things but in/around Pompey isn't great for a quick blast really although there are a few nice roads. If you're gonna make a day of it then there's a reasonable choice of nice roads though.

Quickish A roads you want the A32/A272 as camcam says. There's a nice run of B roads going along between Petersfield/South Harting/Chichester way which are worth a look. I wouldn't say you'd be wanting/able to GYKD around Portsdown hill as it's a 40 limit with loads of cars and not much in the way of corners.

Drop me a PM when you get down here and I'd be happy to show you some of the better roads about. Smile

A326 from Fawley to Southampton has a 270 degree left hand bend which I scrape on every day. There's also a nice constant radius roundabout at the top of the M271, on the way to Romsey.

Cheers

the roudnabout by waterloovile swimming pool is a good one Very Happy bit tight but it's good fun, it's where I first ever got my knee down and also where I lowsided my R6 Laughing had some good times there

This pic was taken there:

https://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2004%5C03%5C10%5Cbikepics-118735-full.jpg

Other than that I can't really think of anywhere other than going out of Portsmouth into petersfield way etc..

And portsmouth sucks even more if you're into stunt riding, as I swear all the industrial estates around here have "anti sparks" cameras or something, I can't work out how they turn up 5 mins after I go there no matter how randomly I go, I can leave it for months but the 1 time I go back I hear sirens... sucks!!!!

Going to be 20mph zones everywhere, traffic is already really bad, theres only 3 ways onto and off the island so you can guess what happens at 5 pm each night...

There was an accident on the eastern road the other day, the 2nd busiest road leaving portsmouth, no joke but it gridlocked the whole of portsmouth... i was in the van from southsea to copnor and it took AGES to get there, it took me ages to get from copnor to Farlington on my bike too, traffic was so bad it made filtering hard as there were cars everywhere!! I cut through 2 car parks /pavement bit just to get ahead lolol!

Stay out of the city if you can Laughing

Only about 25-30mph sometimes slower... it really is a tight roundabout and it has a steep camber which makes you lean more, but it taught me well so I can't fault it Mr. Green

Took a local from my pub 2 hours to travel 3 miles that day with the Eastern road R.T.C.
Another time, on the M275. Whole of portsmouth gridlocked for around 5 hours. And on Xmas week.
City is just getting worse and worse day by day

i agree, portsmouth is getting worse every day.
its not as bad on my bike, nipping in and out of traffic, but mum went to domino pizza on the gridlock day and got back it was cold! grrrrr!
apparently they are doing or going to be doing roadworks along london road to fratton bridge for 4months.
