I am 27 and just passed my CBT.

I did it on a geared bike to make it interesting. but to be honest. i was SO bored!

i have been riding a 50cc scoot for 4 years and have a car licence so i knew all the safety stuff. I also found gearing quite easy.

now. at the end, the das guy (who never saw me) siad i would still need to do a 5 day course? i think thats crap and they want to get more money from me.

waht are my options now. should i just buy a 125cc and do the test on my own? or do i need 500cc expeience?

so frustrating.

well if you buy a 125 , you'll get bored of it pretty qucik (good utilitarian transport though) , and have to renew your CBT every 2 years,

but since you are 21> you can take DAS, which opens up unlimited class biking which future tests won't allow (2010) , I'd recommend it as you have to do it sometime best to get it outta the way.

riding a 500 isn't that much different , just that they are heavier and accelerate faster, and probably due to never owning a disc brake 125 lock the front a bit easier (painful) , something I never ever did on a drum CG125.

Maybe go see a v generous mate with a crash barred GS and have a try in a car park, and see the difference before making your mind up.

It depends what you're after. If you want to hop on a 100bhp sports bike and go nuts, you will need, I'd say, at least 3 days training, and more likely 4+. You'll need time to get acquainted with a 125 and then a 500, and the standard of riding expected is much higher than what is expected on the CBT.

If you're happy in the 33bhp area, it took me 1 day and 3 2 hour lessons to pass my test, first time. And I hadn't ridden for about 6 months prior to that, so it can't be that hard.

cheers.

i don't want to go mad. i just want to buy a 620ie monster!

can i restrict one to 33bhp and ride it now?

if now- i'll just go through the pain of learning more...

and hopefully pass das 1st time

You are limited to 125cc on a CBT so no you cannot de-restrict.

Do your DAS. If you have experience of the raods already I would say 5 days is too much. I did a 3 day and passed first time. The test is more about your observation skills etc so if you can ride already your half way there.

You will also need to take and pass a theory before booking a DAS.

When I did my test I just booked a one hour lesson once a week with a local instructor then went away and practiced on my 125 for the rest of the week (on the way to and from work).

After a bit he told me I was ready for my test and I booked it.

I presume you can still do it this way rather than having to book an 'intensive' course.

I think most places still recommend it actually, it's undoubtedly more effective in the long-term, the intensive is for us unpatient lot. Laughing

By the way ducatiman, it's best to get yourself an evaluation lesson so they can tell you how many more lessons you need. That's what I did. Thumbs Up

With 4 years scoot experience, IMO you could probably pass the DAS with less than 5 days. Some training centres offer free assessment lessons before the DAS, maybe you could try one of those??
I think it sounds pretty dodgy that the DAS guy never even saw you and still suggested 5 days straight away...

For the record, I did the 5 day DAS just last year (and passed 1st time, but bearing in mind that my CBT was the 1st time I'd ever sat on a motorbike).
