Thanks

As far as I know you aren't allowed to take the theory until you are old enough to take the practical, which in this case is 17.

So from what I have seen and heard, you have to be 17 to take the theory. It used to be that you can take it at 16 but I think they stopped that for some reason.

I was told you have to be 17 if your taking your theory test for an A2 licence, as for the A2 test you need cat A on you provisional and this doesnt come into effect until you are 17. Well, thats what the DSA told me!

i did my theory test when i was 16, passed my A2 a month ago-no questions asked about the thoery certificate-all they use it for is the number in the top right hand corner-this is your test booking number.

hhmm....if this is the case, then i may look into changing the date of my theory test, as its currently stopping me from booking my training/test. see, ive got my theory booked for my b-day (18th july) and until ive done that, i cant book my practical test, which i was hoping to do a few weeks after the theory, but trying to book the practical test for straight after doin the theory will be leaving it a bit too late me thinks. Thinking

Which is quite pointless since they only last 2 years and you cant take the practical until your 17!

It's probably the same theory for mopeds as it is for motorcycles. Hence why you can take it at 16.

yep, which is why I did it.. with an intention to do the moped test (which i quickly realised was pretty pointless so the idea got abandoned..)

Perhaps you'd get slightly cheaper insurance if you passed the moped test????

Otherwise not worth it.

The only other reason for doing the moped test is that your two years probationary period (where you can only get 6 points) starts as soon as you get your first licence. Since most points come from speeding fines, you're not likely to get many on a restricted moped. By the time you get a car / bike licence, you'll have saved a year on probation.

From the DSA site:

Quote:
Mopeds and tractors
If you want to ride a moped you can take your theory test when you are 16, but again you must make sure you have a valid provisional licence.

If you are 16 and already have a provisional licence for an agricultural vehicle or a moped, this will give you provisional entitlement to drive a car when you are 17.

Quote:
Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday, however you can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday.

So, if you apply for your provisional licence before you are 17 you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.

i had to wait about 2 weeks, but that depends on where you are. I preped by buying a book with questions in and using the free online mock tests. I started reading a few months before the test but only did like a small bit each week. I think you could prep in just under a week, i just gave myself time so i didn't fuck it up and look like a tw@.

Just book the test. when i got to the centre they asked for both parts of my provisional and saw i was only 16, but never questioned this.

It currently costs £21.50

Thanks, I have been using the practice CD and i nearly always get a pass so i think i need to do a little more to secure a pass, i have only done 1 hazard clip and i got about 90%.

I never did any practise for the hazzard perception and still passed. I did think i had fucked it up though as for a few clips i only clicked a few times and on one clip i only clicked once!
