Anyone here owned/ridden one? Quite interested to hear any opinions as I'm reading very mixed reviews on the 'net. Going to try and blag a test ride at some point as I'm getting bored of plastic bikes. Thumbs Up

I`ve the 600.the 900 is fuel injected so thats better. But when you
are going a bit or alot fast the wind will nearly take you off the
back.Could do with some wind protection.I dont think any of the 900
had 16in front wheel but i would go for 17in.

I've heard the pre '03 models with the 16 inch front wheel are utter bollocks compared to the later models in the handling stakes, and 16inch rubber is harder to find.

They also have a reputation as a bit of a tank slapper, though im not sure if that was pre '03 models only though.

You talking about the 600 I think? (I had 98' handled like a dream)

Have never really heard good reviews about the 900, it was a receipe for success - A naked fireblade but they seemed to have screwed up along the way. Certainly keep their value though, not many about at all. Go check the hornets nest website out to see if there are any for sale locally.

I test rode a hornet, and admittedly it was a cracking good ride. the detuned engine was fantastic for giving the get up and go thrill i've come to expect with street bikes. Shame the engine blew on me tho (some twat forgot to put water/coolant in the engine and it overheated and seized despite my whinings to my shaparone from the dealers...)

I read a decent review in Bike mag not too long ago. They said it made a great town bike/commuter because of the grunt engine. The only criticism levelled at it was the usual Honda "could be more exciting . . . ".

Funny you should post this now

I have recently been considering going for a Hornet 900 over my ZX6. I went from a bandit 1200 to my ZX6, and i`m still missing the torque of a larger engine, also i find my 6 to be so brutal with its riding position that my hands are buzzing and numb after 20 miles.

Rode my mates Hornet 600 the other day and loved it!

try supporting your upper body by leaning it on the tank rather than using your arms. It wont be so bad when you find the right riding position, but it may take a bit of experimentation.

Problem is, after a few miles even that becomes a chore as the ergos on the 2003 ZX6 are so severely race orientated. The seat is pitched forward, and the bars are so much lower than the equivalent Gixxer / R6. I find myself becoming frustrated with other road users for 'holding me up' because i`m not comfortable at anything less than 70mph where the wind keeps you up ! lol

I`m thinking of some risers for it, does anyone know if these are available?

Get a comfort kit from streetfighterstore.co.uk, they raise the bars using risers and flat bars, and they also sell reprofiled screens to adjust airflow and allow for handlebar movement.

Depends what you want from a bike as ever. Would definitely get some rides on 'competiting' bikes at the same price range.

Personally, I usually find naked bikes a bit 'soft' as standard - if you like sports bike precesion, it'd be worth considering a streetfightered sports bike as well, I reckon.
Can get something a bit older with similar specs for pretty decent money usually.

I suppose I want something that's going to be as near a sports bike as possible. All the physical work I do is starting to take it's toll on my back etc so I want something less extreme than the sporty position. (I'm getting old dude).

I like the suspension and handling etc still but it's the position thats bugging me. I'm not riding as much as I should be or want to because it hurts after a while.

I guess a Sports tourer would suit me but the image of it isn't quite me ya know. So a larger cc naked I think is the way forward.

But only a test ride will tell I guess.

Can't believe noone here rides a hornet 900.

As I say, NOT very common bikes at all, sales were quite poor I think.

I've never seen one before.

Try a hornet 600 before you try the 900 is what I say. Smile

Yeah - I'll prob test ride both. But I wanted the torque of a larger cc bike for the ease of riding. I think there are a lot of test rides to be had. Smile

It was a 600 - at the time I had my CBR6 and the difference in engine really did make me think I was riding something considerably bigger!!

(It was a 2005 model)

you cold have a go at making a streetfighter, but in the large cc nakeds you're totally spoiled for choice.

I think a trip would suit you, or at least it would have suited the clown Sad
