Honda CX500

A shaft driven honda, 20 odd years old, owner maintained, stock cans/pipe/engine/drivetrain, The most delicious sound i've heard in a long while.

Owner part ex'd an xjr1300 for a kwak gpx (900 I THINK, could be 750) and the cx.

So old, and so cool I want to ride it, without ever stopping.

I know this is weird, but just had to comment on my bizarre passion for an old shaft bike that none of you care about (maybe some).



The pic below varies from the bike slightly, the shaft case is on the right hand side, and both cylinders through the one can.
Sounds like evil on wheels.

There are a couple of CX owners on the forum, I'm sure they will agree with you.

It is THE definative courier bike which says a lot about them. I've seen one that has been round the clock twice!

Ayup..

Out of the models the best to get is the CX650 eurosport, the frame and suspension has been improved over the z/a/b/c (dual shock)

Trouble is the 650 parts are getting rare.. (they do produce as much power as the sv650 believe it or not, allthough the extra gurth is there its still impressive for late 70's technology)

The 500euro (which i have) is the same engine as the GL (touring version, big fugly faring and boxes, aka silverwing) and most of the innards swap between the z/a/b/c, so there a middle ground...

Bits are getting rarer, but they are still out there, you can pick up an entire bike for 2/300 a good condition runner should be £500 a pristine restored one £1000 (a mate is floging one, faired with a trailer! for £900, not shineyst but its solid as a solid thing)

You do get addicted to them a bit though, i had one as my first big bike (and they are bloody big when your used to a cg) and got a transalp, hated it, and went out and got a euro as soon as i could

If i'm not much mistaken i went ot the funeral of the guy who used to own that (not toaly sure but it looks very familiar, is in notts and the house its at looks ientical :/ )

how long do clutches last on CX turbos? , that cheap one is still for sale , and its got a helluva lot of miles on the clock (53K) around where clutches die.

Depends on the riderto a degree, i know a courrier that had got 70k on the clock and the clutch had almost no wear when he went to check it (he ownd it from new so it was the original!)..

Afaik the turbo 500/650 clutch is identical to the normal 500/650 euro clutch, the engine is more or less the same, with turbo bits and fuel injection (first honda anything to get it in fact) at worst get tougher grade springs..
