PostPosted: 14:32 - 20 Jul 2006    Post subject: My brother and his lump Reply with quote

My brother has just, well, the other day, found a lump on his testicle but is scared to go to the doctors to get it checked out.

We finally got him to go and the doc checked it out and told him to pee in a tube and send it back so tests can be done.

He has recently filled it and now will not tell us were he has put it as he is scared incase he has testicular cancer or some disease.

We have tried lots of ways of trying to get him to take the sample to the doctors or let one of us take it be is having none of it. We have also said that if there is something wrong it is best to find out quick and they might be able to do something about it.

He is only 17 and I quess he is quite scared. Any tips, ideas or experiences with this as it would be very helpful.

Paul Thumbs Up

Tell him, it's probably not cancer and that it was probably a sperm tube or a cyst of some sort and that the chances of cancer are so low that he sends it to the docs anyway.

Or find a girl who likes "watersports" get him to piss in her mouth and then she can spit into a tube herself.

need reasurance from you all, if it is anything serious its better to get it treated sooner rather than later, but im pretty sure its nothing, I've had similar things and they turned out to be some sort of spot type things. they just go in time. but yeah it needs checking out.

Someone we knew had a similar problem and turned out to be a swollen tubule or something due to not 'releasing' himself enough.

We were all trying to make it out as if it was that but no matter what we say and tried to reasure him all the time but he just crys now and again and gets angry.

Tell him its probably nothing (because it probably isnt) I once decided to tell my mates I went to the drs because I found a lump, to which nearly all my friends (8 in total) had also had the same. So it is common to find them.

Odds are it's nothing. Especially as he's so young, but you NEED to get it checked.

Waaay better than ignoring it. Maybe worth asking the Doc to have a word with him?

Good luck with persuading him.

The odds of testicular cancer are highest in the 15-18 age range, so he definitely needs to get it checked.

Does he have any existing conditions? For example, an undescended testicle increases his chance of testicular cancer.

But you do have to get him to give a sample. If it does turn out to be testicular cancer, catching it early gives him about a 99.5% chance of survival (i.e it won't kill him at some point in his life.) If he lets it spread to the lymph nodes, it could easily kill him. Time is of the essence.

My neighbour's brother had a lump in his testicle.

He asked advice from his uncle who said it was nothing to worry about.

Later he went to the doctor.

He had his testicles removed and then treatment for cancer.

He's dead now.

He was in his 20s.

I'd be very careful where I got advice from.

Hotdog.

Yeah I wasnt saying its nothing, I'm saying it's probably nothing, so dont be scared, but he must get it checked.

I was scared to go, I put it off for about 2 months, in the end I said to myself ''just dial the fucking number and dont look back''. So I did. I almost didnt go to the appointment aswell, but used the same mindset to get it done.

Don't understand these people who get "scared" and don't go...ffs, if you know what it could be, you get to the doctors immediately unless you actually like the thought of leaving your loved ones at a very young age.

Tell him that. Rolling Eyes

For gods sake, go and get it checked out

If its nothing then Thumbs Up , if its a cyst and needs an op or treatment then Thumbs Up If its canerous then its nice and early for treatment Wink

I look after too many thick twats that just sit at home waiting for their symptoms to go away on their own, they always presume that its nothing or due to something else, it sometimes is, most of the time its NOT!

Better be safe than sorry

Thanks Hotdog that was a helpful post to someone whos brother has found a lump Rolling Eyes

Best to give him a list of all the other non serious things it could be, such as blockages, cysts etc.

The urine test won't be a test for cancer I think, just a way to check if it is one of the less serious causes such as a blockage.

If the doctor had thought there was a high risk of cancer he would have ordererd an immediate biopsy, I think the doc may suspect a less serious cause, and if thats the case it would at least alleviate some of your brothers (and your families) concerns Thumbs Up

Don't be a complete cock.

There is no point in telling anyone that it might not be serious FFS.

What point is there in encouraging someone to be a dumb fuck ?

Hotdog.

Because did it ever occur to you Paul might also be worried?

Have you never developed the art of sublety?

Everyone knows cancer CAN be serious, but a 17 yr old boy already shit scared wouldnt benefit from hearing scare stories about what COULD happen, and in fact only happens in the minority of cases.

He needs encouragement to visit the doctor, not the fear of god put into him FFS

And has anyone encouraged him to be a dumb fuck?

Only one of them around here Rolling Eyes

Urinalysis wont show up anything other than a bladder infection (UTI), severe hypertension, diabetes (or pregnancy Laughing )

A blood test called a CA125 is the only marker tht would determine whether a carcinoma is present and subsequent CA125's will show a reduction in the mass.

I agree, by telling someone that it might be x,y,z is suggesting that they stay at home as its nothing.

Go and see the GP, ignore the embarresment. I've had to catheterise loads of men (and women, puts you sex for a while Sick especially when they are in their 80's) and I can assure you that I am thinking of anything but the thought of holding another mans love sausage. The GP will be the same, once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

^^^^agreed, but my point is he is more likely to take the sample back when he realises it is a test for less serious causes, hopefully that is all it is and it is identified.

better than worrying about cancer

Tell him that if it is cancer he is likely to die in a short time if not treated.

So his choices are get people to fiddle with his balls and check it out and then treat it, or potentially die.

Its the same as weight, BMI, Blood pressure and peak flow. These are all standard tests that a GP should do, and they all mean squat Thumbs Down

You have to take the test reading into context of the person, past medical history, presenting complaint and other factors. All they give is a basline reading, nothing more.

Yes, very nice Paul.

I'm sure that you won't.

Just how did you expect it to help ?

Posting it on a bike forum ?

If you bother to read the thread you'll find 1/2 dozen people saying to give it to him squarely.

Not just me.

Am I to take this as a personal dislike ?

Hotdog.

I have been through this personally. I had (and still have) a small lump there, and worried about it for years. I was about your brother's age. I eventually told someone who was close to me at the time about it, and she convinced me to see the doctor. It turned out to be nothing, but the doctors praised my eventual decision to get it checked out, given my age then. It's just not worth bushing it off as something less serious, even though statistically it probably is. I hope this helps.
