I filter fairly agressively on my commute but what surprises me if when somebody not on a bike decides to follow me , bikes can follow me fine if they think its safe (though I don't filter quite as fast as I used to a few extra minutes saved isn't worth the risk).

Recently huge 4x4s have been following me while I filter in the right hand lane, AGAINST traffic , perfectly safe for me , theres lots of middle of the lane hashing which is safe in the dry for me to trundle over and I am thin object on the road.

My question is this , if somebody in a 4 + wheeled vehicle follows you though a filter which for you is perfectly safe or slightly leaning towards risky , whos to blame if the 4x4 goes head on into the traffic on the other lane?.

This woman in a Porche those ugly frog like 4x4s , followed me through a filter and almost went head on to bus , I trundled off a little way on she used a bus lane to catch up with me and call me a fecking cnut.

No one but them. If they're stupid enough to follow you through tiny gaps they deserve to crash.

Though to be honest I can't see how a 4 wheeled vehicle can follow you if your filtering? My idea of filtering is squeezing through gaps just wide enough to fit a bike through, and no car is gonna follow you then.

against traffic , sometimes the right hand lane is chocka which is good for filtering , sometimes it comes in dribs and drabs where I can pop out quickly pass 20 or so cars and pull back in before becoming crushed under a bus or something.

Definately their fault.

It always amuses me how some car drivers can take a biker filtering past them Laughing

I was under the impression that it's illegal for a car to filter?

You are responsible for your own actions regardless.

If she thought that because you where going down there on your bike and she would follow in her car thats her own look out.

Would she have followed if you had decided to ride off a cliff?

far fetched as it might seem I was thinking of that highway code rule where you are not supposed to wave out pedestrians and other cars, since there might be a car you can't see or that you get blamed when they crash,

and I was thinking maybe they take your filtering as a signal from you its safe, for them too, won't stand up in court probably but I'd hate to get stuck on the police ANPR database for and pulled for and be done for not stopping at scene of accident.

I heard women don't have spatial awareness but thats bloody ridiculous.

Even if she was on a bicycle it would be her fault if she got wiped out. I would have been very tempted to pull her out of her twat wagon through the open window.

I suspect she's the size of a small elephant though. Would still have been funny to see her face.

A few weeks back I got boxed in by three BMW X5's. All black. All being driven by fortysomething women with no idea that you have to have some modicum of skill to be able to drive, and its not a god given right if you have a double barrelled name. They all had personalised numberplates and I have a strong suspicion that if all three vehicles had a spectacular explosive failure together after I managed to extricate myself, the world would not be any worse off for it.

If there is one thing I hate its the BMW X3/5 and the Porsche Cayenne type vehicle. There is just no point to a 4x4 that can't go off road. Large heavy alloys and loads of armour. Its for people who have nothing worthwhile in their lives that they have to dominate the little people on the queens highway. Evil or Very Mad

God thats made me fume, but I feel strangely relieved to get that off of my chest!! Smile

I would have kicked her door in-that'll teach her a lesson Twisted Evil

in normal filtering on my 125, i feel intimidated by bikes following me, because i feel like im slowing them down. i'll let them by in a safe area and then follow them-but so often they are even slower! big bikes eh..... Laughing
you can learn lots from following a courier though:up:

If a 4x4 can follow you filtering you need to learn to filter properly. They are over 5foot wide FFS! Rolling Eyes

As I said , in the mornings the roads into the city are clogged up , while the roads out of the city are not , howvere there is still traffic such that you can pop out into the right lane pass a few cars before something comes the other way ,

the same is true on the way home few cars going into the city many leaving it.

4x4s in town: very significant vehicles, driven by insignificant people. Evil or Very Mad Obviously believed the packaging about being able to go anywhere.

That'll be overtaking then and not filtering. But the woman is definitely in the wrong for simply attempting a poorly judged overtaking manouevre.

A couple of months back, while I was filtering past slow moving / stationary traffic, a stupid cow driving a VW golf who had been watching me filter in her mirrors, moved her car close to the one in the adjacent lane to cut off my path. I moved up, flicked her side mirror closed, moved past and and pulled it back open. Watching the look on her face turn from smug satisfaction to fury as I went past is one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced Very Happy.

That was very gracious of you to fold her mirror back out again once you were passed. Very cool! Cool
